Back in the late 80s, I was a Flight Engineer on the C-5 Galaxy.

One of my duties was to monitor a couple of gauges.

A C-5 has quite a bit of cargo carrying space.

On some missions we have to get a fillup along the way.

Some of our missions were Presidential support. We transported the President's limousines, helicopters and Secret Service personnel. These photos were taken in support of President George H.W. Bush on a trip to Europe back in 1989.

On this mission, we had invited the driver of the primary limousine up to the flight deck. He in turn, invited us to visit the President's limo during our break. Not too many people can claim that they were riding in the President's limousine at 38,000 feet going .77 Mach!

(Who's flying the plane?...We were flying with two flight crews on this long mission so there WAS someone flying the plane. :)

Some C-5 trivia

The C-5 aircraft can hold:

277,000 twelve fluid ounce (355 ml) cans of beverage,

328,000,000 aspirin tablets,

2,400,000 golf balls,

10,700 bushels of unshelled Virginia peanuts,
