Only one of the pictures below features the real American Pit Bull Terrier. Note that there are no mixes or rescue dogs of unknown background who's breed could be debated. All dogs have been picked in breeder's web sites and should be good representatives of their breed.

While you're playing, keep in mind that breed specific legislation bans "pit bull type" dogs and any one of the dogs pictured here could fall into that rather vague category.

Pit Bulls may arguably be the most abused breed on the planet. Their huge numbers alone set them up for widespread misuse and neglect. Add to the mix the breed's unfortunate reputation as a "tough, mean fighting machine", its appeal to backyard breeders and profit-seeking charlatans, media-driven myth and fear-mongering, along with a plethora of uneducated and irresponsible people (both good and bad intentioned), and you're left with a severely exploited, misused, mismanaged, and brutalized breed. Is it any wonder that Pit Bulls need our help?

Pit Bulls face hardships sometimes beyond comprehension:

• Neglect
• Over-abundance of dogs
• Irresponsible and abusive owners
• Persistent propagation of misinformation and damaging myths
• Humane and animal rescue organizations lacking breed knowledge & resources
