I consider myself an independent thinker and I have never really been a joiner... Politically, I strongly believe in the goverment's role in defending the rights of individuals and a fairly strict interpretation of the Constitution. The Framers got it right...
Personally, I think we can and need to know right from wrong, and call a spade a shovel even if that means making hamburgers out of some sacred cows. I hate spin (what Orwell called 'newspeak' and 'prolefeed') and believe that knowing the Truth, acting with the proper ethics, and sticking to deeply evaluated principles are much more important than the personalities involved. Cautious, I don't like to take sides when I don't know what's really going on or suspect the motives of those urging me in one direction or another. Hardly a partisan, I work to stick to my principles consitently, which has consistently led to me being labled 'conservative' by those who know me when finding a lack for a better term.
I find myself reading a lot in order to sharpen my mind, to maintain my personal goals, to help maintain a simple and clear path for determining my actions, and to prepare for those debates on issues that I feel are important. Hardly an activist, not even voting before...I found myself becoming politically aware relatively late, and have found myself consistently voting Republican since Reagan. His optimism, leadership, wit and wisdom were certianly inspiring and formative in shaping my view of the world.
Various Bullet Points:
1) Protect the Rights of the individual (the ultimate minority)
2) Free Trade, Budgetary Restraint
3) Federalism, Remember the 10th Amendment
4) Personal responsibility and integrity.
5) Force can only be met with more force - enough to make the enemy submit and never forget why or die. "Give me Liberty or give me death." If it's a choice between us or them, they have got to go.
