However, I hold to all three legs of conservatism. I think my priorities would be (in relative importance):
Moral/Social Conservatism 45%
National Defense Conservatism 35%
Fiscal Conservatism 20%
I am Republican and have always voted for the Republican candidate for POTUS since 1976, when I first had a chance to vote. I was old enough in 1972, but busy with initial military training during the election.
However, I WILL NOT SUPPORT ROMNEY EVEN IN A GENERAL ELECTION! He is not remotely conservative, he is a MORMON CULTIST, and I reject him being the GOP candidate for POTUS. I WILL VOTE THIRD PARTY RATHER THAN EVER SUPPORT ROMNEY.
(SPECIAL NOTE on the above added 05 November 2012 at 6:28 PM - I am having to cave on this - like many others on FR I just cannot sit on the fence and let Mr. Obama be reelected - Tommorrow I plan to vote "Romney" - which for me is voting against Obama - I think Romney is not a good choice - but Obama is just not acceptable)
I want to emphasize that NOT voting is not a responsible use of what God has provided. On March 22, 1857 an English Baptist minister - Charles Haddon Spurgeon - had this to say on "elections.":
When Mr. Whitefield was once applied to use his influence at a general election, he returned answer to his lordship who requested him that he knew very little about general elections but that if his lordship took his advice he would make his own particular calling and election sure, which was a very proper remark. I would not, however, say to any persons here present, despise the privilege which you have as citizens. Far be it from me to do it! When we become Christians, we do not leave off being Englishmen! When we become professors of religion, we do not cease to have the rights and privileges which citizenship has bestowed on us. Let us, whenever we shall have the opportunity of using the right of voting, use it as in the sight of Almighty God, knowing that for everything, we shall be brought into account and for that among the rest, seeing that we are entrusted with it. And let us remember that we are our own governors, to a great degree, and that if at the next election we should choose wrong governors, we shall have nobody to blame but ourselves, however wrongly they may afterwards act, unless we exercise all prudence and prayer to Almighty God to direct our hearts to a right choice in this matter. May God so help us and may the result be for His Glory, however unexpected that result may be to any of us!
I am Pro-Life (actually anti-abortion) - Only if a choice must be made between the life of the mother verses child do I consider abortion acceptable.
I am a NRA member and a strong believer in the 2nd Ammendment individual right to keep and bear arms. However, with that right comes the responsibility to also be prepared to not only defend yourself and family, but you community, State, or country if called upon by proper constitutional authorities. I also agree with the "Castle Doctrine" and "Stand Your Ground" laws.
I am not rabidly a "fiscal conservative." However, I do think the government should not spend more than it takes in with taxes. I think the less taxation the better for everyone concerned...at ALL levels of government. However, I do believe, properly restrained, government is not intrinsically a "bad" thing, whereas "anarchy" is.
I think one of the primary purposes for the federal government is to provide for the common defense of the country. Thus, I am strongly for a strong military that is properly regulated and not misused as a police force inside the borders of the U.S. The military exists to defend against enemies of the state, not its citizens. I have no problems paying taxes to maintain a strong and well equipped military, and have no problem using it to project and protect American interests abroad.
I have no use for "Libertarians." It is just another form of anarchy and a excuse to legalize things that are a detriment to the health and welfare of our society....i.e. Drugs...a real scourage.
I think the only REAL answers to what ails are country is its failure to turn to God through the Lord Jesus Christ. If you get that right first....everthing else we work out. We should all pray for a great awakening of Christian belief in America and around the world.
ALL sexual immorality is wrong. Therefore, although I consider it a horrible evil, I do not believe in singling out the sin of Homosexuality for repression when so much of what ills this great land is hetereosexually immorality. However, I do think homosexual unions or marraige should never be granted legal status anywhere in the United States. Open homosexuals (or promiscious heterosexuals) do not belong in military service either. I think marraige must be clearly defined as one man and one woman joined in union "until death does them part." Divorce is just too common in our country and "no-fault" divorces should end. Only adultery should be the basis for divorce...and the adulterous party should be the one coming out poorly in the divorce judgement.
