Keep the hate alive brother.

Let's see....looking at all that have responded so far I can see one...two...at least five Southron supporters who live for keeping the hate alive. MinnesotaLibertarian just got caught in the middle.

I think this is a real neat story....and no matter how nice a story is, there always seems to be someone in FReeperland that wants to put a negative spin on it.

This is not a discussion on the merits of the Civil War, but if two soldiers that died fighting for the South deserve to be labeled as "traitors".

I, and others, believe they should not be. Now, if you look around Free Republic you will find many threads on the merit of the Civil War, feel free to go there and state you case.

I didn’t say anything about not forgiving. I’m just saying it’s inaccurate to call them [United States of] American soldiers, as they were not.

Are you serious? How was his wanting to keep the Union together at all selfish? How was he a tyrant? And more importantly, let’s hypothetically say that he did nothing and the south did succeed. Where would we be today? It amazes me how some people think...and find it to be logical.

actually, NONE of your post is FACTUAL. instead it is a recitation of the SELF-serving, arrogantly/KNOWINGLY dishonest, sanctimoniousness propounded by "the lincoln MALadministration" to COVER-UP the TRUTH that the war (from the DAMNyankee point of view) was ONLY about lincoln's LUST for POWER & MONEY.

neither lincoln nor his "merry band of thugs & war criminals" cared anything about the "plight of the slaves". in point of fact, lincoln was willing to make slavery PERMANENT by Constitutional amendment, as he HATED & FEARED "persons of colour" (like ME for example).

check your facts, before typing. then you won't look clueLESS & IGNORANT.

I’m not disputing any of that. All I’m saying is that they were not soldiers of the USA, and in fact were enemies, so it’s inaccurate to call them such.

The Civil War was truly a war where brother fought against brother. I had 5 great, great, uncles who fought in that war. One for the Confederacy and four for the Union. Two died at the Battle of the Wilderness (one from each side), another died in Andersonvill, the fourth and fifth survived both having fought at Gettysburg.

Speaking of terminally ignorant, how the hell have you been? Family doing well I hope, after your recent loss?

I guess it's a yankee thing, kill everybody that has the guts to disassociate themselves from the hyperspiritual, consdescending, elitist snobs.

Do you not see the irony in that statement? It's been my experience that many Southerners are the most provincial people there are, and look down on everyone else. Comment like yours are an example of that attitude. That's why I like to intentionally say provocative things on these threads - it exposes the "Southern hospitality" myth for what it is - total BS.

And it would not have been the last time the SC was wrong.

State sovereignty is just that. It is the decision of individual states. If the ability to decide to act by an individual state is limited by how many states decide on an issue, that is not state sovereignty, but federalism, which is what the Confederates (here paraphrased as anti-federalists) were fighting.

In other words, the SC decision was wrong, but it didn’t matter, because the SC no longer had jurisdiction over the seceding states.

Would you mind telling me the year and name of the court case that decided that?

I’ve heard of such a ruling by the Canadian Supreme Court, but not by the US.

Thanks in advance.

No, my “outburst” serves to expose how angry and defensive so many Southerners are. It was meant to be provacative. Read the thread - mission accomplished. This really has nothing to do with politics - it’s more about how I’ve been treated like crap every time I’ve ever been to South (and no, I did not go around saying stuff like I just did). I’m just exposing the myth of Southern hospitality. I actually in some ways agree with the Southern take on the Civil War.

may i gently suggest that you read THE REAL LINCOLN by professor Thomas DiLorenzo??? he is better at long, involved, explanations than i am.

AFTER you've read his book, come back & we'll talk.

IF lincoln had chosen PEACE & traded with the new dixie republic instead of making war needLESSLY, we would probably be two FREE republics & likely would be good friends/allies/trading partners (as Canada & the USA are).

instead "the tyrant" CHOSE war & a MILLION Americans died for his FOLLY.

Do me a favor - read this thread and you tell me where the anger is really coming from. I’m just enjoying myself over here.
