A WHITE American soldier who gave HIS LIFE in a war to free the slaves... The volunteers from Minnesota probably had never even seen a black person before but gave their lives to free them from bondage.
I can't imagine that whites or Christians would ever be freed in a similar fashion by non-whites or non-Christians fighting their own people in this manner, but if it did happen, I suspect that those selfless souls would be honored on a regular basis by the descendants of those freed slaves.

The civil war was NOT to free the slaves. The civil war was fought over States rights, not slavery...
The freeing of the slaves was actually a by product because the back of the Confederacy was broken, and could no longer carry on in that fashion.
