I once attended a garden party that featured a New Guinea traditional cookout. The food was cooked by being placed on heated rocks and buried for a long time.
Being a bore, I made a smart-ass remark about checking out the meat before actually eating it to make sure none of the local homeless people were missing.
The Papua native was not offended and calmly said she and her group were not cannibals. Those people, she stated, lived on the other side of the island.
