Russia Forced to Cannibalize Air Defenses to Make Satan-II Missiles—Report (from March)
Newsweek ^ | 3/1/2024 | Isabel van Brugen

Russia is having to use electronic parts meant for its air defense systems to manufacture its Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) due to shortages caused by sanctions imposed over the war in Ukraine, according to a local report.

-snip-

"Sources of VChK-OGPU say that today the Krasnoyarsk Machine-Building Plant is experiencing a serious shortage of electronic components...for the production of strategic missiles," the channel said.

"The electronics of the new RS-28 (Sarmat) missile system are largely of foreign origin and, due to sanctions, are experiencing a serious shortage. Now all efforts are being made to somehow correct the situation with the supply of sanctioned electronics, they are even sacrificing the production of S-400 air defense systems in Siberia, all for Sarmat," the post said.

-snip-

"It's a very problematic missile. The Russians couldn't even manage test launches, when they launched a model at 30 meters to check the powder booster, they couldn't prepare in time. And overall, there was only one full-scale test of Sarmat.

"Although during Soviet times, intercontinental ballistic missiles were tested for years, there were dozens of tests with constant error correction. I do think Sarmat exists, but the missile is unreliable and dangerous. That's why it's not produced in series," Kovalenko explained.

Russia has given notice for a SATAN 2 test launch next week which will obviously flop like their last SATAN 2 test launch.

Satan 2 is not the Russian name for the missiles.

So where did they make the electronic parts during Soviet times? Ukraine?

Next week’s SATAN 2 test flop is going to be hilarious. You would think Russia would at least wait until AFTER their May 9th “Victory” parade in Red Square to subject themselves to another humiliating flop like last time.

NATO came up with that name. It would be like them naming our Minuteman the Epstein one, and the Epstein 2.

Judging by all the gains Vlad is making across the front (most notably Chasov Yar area) and his daily unrelenting missile attacks I view this article as a Hopium article designed for the war cheerleaders….that Hopium is a very powerful drug.

The unretouched photo.

The touch-up features available in many photo editors can turn images into pleasing but unrecognizable versions of the originals.

The RS-28 is (apparently) a super-heavy ICBM. The “SATAN” reference is to the USSR’s first super-heavy ICBM, the R-36M/RS-20, which was given the NATO reporting name SS-18 SATAN.

“Just more proof Ukraine is winning”

Russia maintains a landbased force of roughly 760 ICBMs with 3,629 nuclear warheads, half in the silos. They have never used an ICBM in an actual war so I don’t think they are too worried about losing their inventory. So this issue has nothing to do with the Ulraine and they aren’t winning.

The fighting has slowed to a cruel slog that works to Russia’s favor. Ukraine runs low on troops and munitions, while Russia maintains both in plenty. The long-planned, high-risk, months-long Ukrainian spring 2023 counteroffensive failed, with Ukraine unable to regain territory seized by Russia. Support for Zelensky in Ukraine and the West has finally slipped. American aid is logjammed in Congress, and the U.S. seems tired of funding the war.

After Ukrainian troops abandoned Avdiivka following some of the war’s heaviest fighting — the most significant loss or gain by either side in nine months — almost all advantages accrue to Russia. Time is not on the Ukraine’s side but it is for Russia.

All the Russian babushkas had to go back to using scrub boards for laundry like their great-grannies did, because the chips from their washing machines were confiscated to put in Russian missiles. Unfortunately for the Russians, the missiles tend to go off course when the spin cycle kicks in.
