“Over the last decade, Ukraine has been the battleground in a proxy war between the U.S. and Russia – a conflict massively escalated by the Kremlin’s invasion in 2022. The fight erupted in early 2014, when Biden and his team, then serving in the Obama administration, supported the overthrow of Ukraine’s elected president, Viktor Yanukovych. “

The whole premis pretends Putin and Russian intellience was not overtly and covertly meddling in Ukraine, since long before Obama and 2014, with multiple Urkraine leaders poinsoned or otherwise killed by Putin. The pretense suggests western nations were going to ignore all that.

The “proxy” war was begun by Putin before the 2022 invasion and before the 2014 takeover of Crimea.

As much as Biden and Obama bunhdled things they did not create the political conditions of post-Soviet Ukraine - they inherited them, which juss as in Russia includes an exconomic and political influence of oligrarchs which arose in the immediate post-Soviet era, all across the former Soviet Union. (That was bound to happen with the absence of any pre-existing true “free market” capitalists and a political elite able to use elite positions to gain economic advantage. I remember one economic report in the 1990s that claimed at the time the Russian mob controlled something like 60% of the banks in Russia and similarly in other parts of the former Soviet Union.)

Indeed. The pro-Russian side always ignore the fact that the protests in 2014 arose because of Russia's pressuring of Yanukovych to disavow the EU/Ukraine agreement that he had previously supported and had been approved by the democratically elected parliament. Putin was trying to use Yanukovych to force Ukraine into a economic union with Russia. They also gloss over the fact that there were two presidential elections since then.
