Russian President Vladimir Putin's meeting with an ally of the Wagner Group signals his struggle to address setbacks in the Ukraine conflict.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is taking decisive steps to address growing challenges as he seeks to regain control over his struggling military campaign in Ukraine.
On May 2, Putin met with Alexei Dyumin, the governor of Russia's Tula Oblast, and a known associate of the Wagner Group, at his Novo-Ogaryovo residence in Moscow Oblast.
The meeting has raised questions about the stability of Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu's position, signalling Putin's increasing desperation in the face of unmet military goals.
Dyumin, who was closely associated with Wagner Group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin during the tumultuous events of 2022 and 2023, presented Putin with a report outlining Tula Oblast's contributions to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
He discussed key issues such as housing for Russian soldiers, strengthening Russia's defence industrial base, and improving the regional medical system.
The timing of the meeting is crucial. It occurred just days after the high-profile arrest of Russian Deputy Defence Minister Timur Ivanov, a close ally of Shoigu, and ahead of the anticipated presidential inauguration on May 7.

Yawn.....another Zelensky/Biden reelection gambit......
just as in politics, no truth .......only vote grabbing.
Will Shoigu attend Putin’s May 9th “Victory Parade” in Red Square next week?
Putin blew up his best general. Lol!
Kyiv in 3 days! Bring your parade uniform!
Article is about politics. After referring to Russian “setbacks” in the war, it never returns to say just what those setbacks are. The battle over Chasiv Yar is mounting and Ukraine has stacked the box there defensively, so it’s not going to happen by May 9. I guess that’s a setback of sorts. Elsewhere in Donets Russia has made significant advances. Lots of heavy fighting and stout Ukrainian defense, but no significant Ukrainian gains anywhere.
Wow, I’m posting here because ‘de minimus’ replies to posters. I’m feeling left out as ‘de minimus’ hasn’t posted to me!
Ukraine will be in defense mode for the rest of the year while continuing to demilitarize Crimea’s air defenses as well as the Black Sea fleet.
Shoigu and his cronies were all under investigation for corruption a year before the invasion. The invasion shut down that investigation but it’s back again after 2 years of Putin’s botched war.
Popcorn time.
I believe it is Ukraine that is losing ground and out of manpower.
Your UK sources are always BS.
Putin blew up his best general! Lol! Now he’s begging the remnants of Wagner to bail him out. Too funny!
From “Kyiv in 3 days!” to “Chasiv Yar by Victory Day!” What happened?
ZEEPER FOLLIES PINGLIST!!
(((PING!)))
Join and laugh at the Zeepers!!
—> Your UK sources are always BS.
Intelligence services place the propaganda.
Marcus eagerly reposts it!
Don’t forget to polish your hammer and sickle pin for next week’s “Victory” parade!
Man, the UK tabloids are even worse than ours when it comes to pushing laughable propaganda. Its the Ukes who are losing. They’re almost out of men. They’re being steadily pushed back and every sober expert says its only a matter of time before there’s a collapse of their front. Yet this paper is trying to pretend the Russians are losing.
Putin promised he’d conquer Kyiv in 3 days back in 2022. What happened?
Remember those stories about how the Russians were freezing to death in their own tanks?
Remember the stories about how the Russians were running out of ammo and were on the brink of defeat?
Remember those stories about how the glorious Uke offensive was going to turn the tide of the war?
Remember how they were going to hold on to one fortified stronghold after another in the Donbas?
What happened?
Kyiv in 3 days!
One general rule: the British press from the tabloids to the broadsheet (figuratively speaking, as it is 95%+ web) will repeat what MI-6 wants to be published. Therefore, it is unreliable.
