Bribery case puts Russian Defense Minister Shoigu in the crosshairs
Politico EU ^ | 5/3/2024 | Eva Hartog

Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov is siting in Moscow’s Lefortovo prison, and that spells trouble for his boss Sergei Shoigu.

-snip-

In his latest job overseeing military construction, Ivanov was in charge of some of Russia’s most prestigious projects, including a giant military-themed cathedral and patriotic theme park on the outskirts of Moscow and, more recently, reconstruction work in the ruined city of Mariupol in occupied Ukraine.

His access to astronomic funds earned him the nickname “Shoigu’s wallet.” Rather than hide his wealth, Ivanov flaunted it. For years, tabloids and independent journalists documented his love for women, opulent real estate, designer clothes and trips to the French Riviera.

Putin may dump Shoigu, but if he does, it’s likely that the reason is that Shoigu is being too conservative in his fight against the Neocons in Ukraine, and Putin wants the war over with, in his favor (of course), before the US November Elections, so that US voters can understand just what the Neocons are up to.

In any case, I wouldn’t get too happy if Shoigu was gone as whoever replaces him will likely make life FAR MORE DIFFICULT for Biden.

Putin blew up his best general Prigozhin.

Russian goals are to draw the West into a slow burning protracted war. It’s why Zalenski wasn’t taken out. But if Trump wins then expect Russia to bum rush in and take it all before inauguration day.

“Putin blew up his best general Prigozhin.”

Along with the airplane, and its highly-trained crew? Doubtful. More likely Prigozhin was ‘demoted’ by the Neocons because he was ‘no longer an asset’, to use a bit of Zeeper terminology.

Putin, as you guys claim, had “six ways from Sunday” to ‘take care of him’ WITHOUT using the plane and its crew (think Navalny, for example)...he would have used one of those many ways.

Russian goals were to conquer Ukraine within a few weeks tops.

And that didn’t work out.

The ‘drawing the west into a protracted war” is simply armchair general stuff.

Veteran Russia watchers seem to agree this was authorized by Putin to take Shoigu’s powerbase down a notch. The bribe was a mere #11,000 USD equivalent. This, for a man known as an international playboy who lives in a palatial home.

Shoigu is useful to Putin, but he had apparently become a bit too powerful, and it was time to reign him in.

All Russian government officials take bribes and kickbacks. It’s feature of the system. Since the people who count know all about it those bribes can be used at any moment to take them down and they know it. In this case, it probably wasn’t anything the general in question did himself, but who he worked for and supported. You’d think that supporting someone who supports Putin would be a safe bet. but the politics over there is cutthroat bad. (Or fall down the stairs or out of a window bad.)

After Prigo conquered Bakhmut, Putin rewarded him by blowing him up.

And with Prigo dead, it’s taken Russia 12 months to advance barely 5 miles from Bakhmut to the outskirts of Chasiv Yar and they still can’t capture the bombed out village.

No wonder Shoigu’s going under the bus right before next week’s “Victory” parade in Red Square.

Could be, but it’s not like Bakhmut took 2 weeks either. It’s a rough war, when NATO is throwing all they have at you, and you’re just a small country, with 20% of their population, trying to hold them off.

Exactly.

Western political claims that “Putin killed Prigozhin” is the same as “Putin killed Navalny”.

And later on they concede that it probably didn’t happen.

Absolutely - all but ONE CLAIM from the Zeepers didn’t, eventually, get debunked, and that ONE CLAIM is whatever claim came out in the past 24 hours (which still needs a day or two to get debunked).
