An international organization that monitors elections in places such as Belarus and Ukraine will send a delegation to oversee voting in North Carolina next week.... The U.S. State Department invited the OSCE to monitor the elections mostly as a formality. The United States is one of 55 nations that belong to the organization, and a State Department spokesman said earlier this month that it has become standard practice for members to welcome its election observers.

When Gary Bartlett, executive director of the State Board of Elections, meets with the observers Monday, he will tell them they must remain 50 feet from polling places when people are voting. "There are only certain people who can be in the polling place," Bartlett said. "And they do not qualify."
Well, that's some very tiny consolation but I'm with you, mrsjones ... it makes my skin crawl.

shine this North Carolinian wants is the one I put right in their anti-American eye!
Then again maybe we can 'drown' them in a bit of home shine :)

Okay, this has gone far enough. The constitution reserves actions like this for the STATES. Our elections can NOT be monitored by foreign countries or outside bodies. People are forgetting our constitution.
Colin Powell needs to go. The communist and socialist lovers in the state department need to go. After the election clean house.
Oh, and while we are on the subject... revisit the whole UN thing. Limits need to be placed and rules made.

100% agreement here! I'm glad Powell never ran for president. What a debacle that would have been. Time to go back to the red wagons.
I hope after the election W cleans out the RAT's nest at Froggy Bottom.

I live in the mountains of NC, and I can assure you that ANY interference from foreigners would be most poorly received. There are more guns than people around these parts, and I should know, being a part-time gunsmith. These folks would do well to make a point of not being noticable in the least!

Yes. Here's an idea - the US pulls out of the UN.
It would probably crumble like a house of cards.

My kids and I will be campaigning at the polls tomorrow morning and afternoon ... I'll take some muffins and prayer cards in case our foreign guests show up!

Foreign monitors to view N.C. vote I thought that headline meant that Jimmie Karter was going to monitor the NC vote. He's pretty foreign alright.

I'm with mrsjones, it makes my skin crawl and my trigger-finger itch.
However, if I was a Norweigian elections inspector, I wouldn't mind a muffin and a prayer card.

If I'm in a bad mood, I'll get James to piddle on them!
But seriesly, what's the chance of foreign election watchers' showing up at Hemby Bridge Volunteer Fire Department? For one thing, they probably couldn't get here because of the (&*(*&* road construction!
Now I need to get the "John Sullivan for Congress" (Oklahoma Dist. 1) sticker off my van before someone here tries to vote for him!

I bet the folks up on Lawsonville would treat these observers real nice.
