I'm ALMOST speechless after reading this report from the AP. Not even a mention of the fact that the bottles were EXPLOSIVES and that one EXPLODED when the janitor opened the bag he found them in! This is way beyond outrageous...

The REAL Story can be found at the following links:
Article: Explosives found near Tech Dorms
Reporter Valerie Huff's video report - newscast version with info and clips of news conferences.
GA Tech Bombing - Extended Video - Press Conference with 2 officials - one from GA Tech's Univ. Police, and also a Maj. with the Atlanta PD.

Ping for a new article about GA Tech - This one is by the AP and is absolutely outrageous. They refuse to even mention that the devices found at GA Tech were explosive devices - just plastice bottles w/ Chemicals!!! I honestly can't believe the audacity of the AP at this point.

If these incidents keep happening at our college campuses and anyone ends up getting hurt the AP will be complicit in the crimes, IMHO. Word needs to get out and our students need to be warned to at the very least keep their eyes and ears open!!!

The worker who found the bottle was picking up trash. He was taken to a clinic for evaluation.

This sounds like he was taken for a mental evaluation. That's what I thought when I read it. Then you say the bottles exploded, which would require a little more intensive "evaluation."

Unbelievable!

Even if this were a college student prank, believe that the bad guys are watching the response. The minimal media response and public concern over the Oklahoma bomb (student blows self up) are notable. In our race not to offend people, it seems that Islamic extremist involvement is immediately discounted without a seemingly thorough investigation. The officials do not want to panic the public. I remain concerned that the terrorists are using these responses and American political correctness to plan their next attack.

Look for a mall or maybe a University. However, upsetting the university student environment will not achieve the desired terrorist effect. Right now, the vast majority of higher education students and faculty are anti-war and liberal. Attacking them might change their views. A mall, on the other hand, would strike at the heart of capitalism (assuming that Wall Street is too hard of a target currently, that is, until such time as the terrorists have a viable bio or chem weapon).

Watch these events closely, and regardless of who is responsible, the terrorists are watching our response. If we randomly implement a variety of security measures, it will extend the planning timeline and just maybe, we will be successful overseas in removing funding, eliminating active terrorist participants (willing suicide bombers with the requisite knowledge of English), and interrupting their leadership to keep the terrorist organizations in disarray. The long-term goal is to change the opinions of the generation of people who think that what the terrorists are doing is OK.

Best regards to all.

Recipe for exploding plastic bottles:

- 1 plastic 2-liter bottle with cap

- crushed up dry ice

- water

Directions: Put dry ice in bottle, add a small amount of water, and screw the cap back on.

Set on the ground. Step back and wait until the expanding gas ruptures the plastic bottle with a loud "bang".

This is a kids' prank that's been going on for at least 20 years or so. There are a lot of kids at college, and it's a new semester.

Don't be too quick to presume the worst. Hopefully, it's just a college prank.

The terrorist war on and in the U.S. will not rely on planes flying into skyscrapers anymore. It will utilize as "bases" the two main national networks most easily available to terrorist planners.

These are the networks of campuses and mosques scattered everywhere in this country.

Many insightful people over the decades have opined that the Viet Nam war was lost not on the battlefield, but on the campuses and in the streets of the U.S. However, unlike the Viet era, the radical left will not utilize the tactics of yesteryear, i.e., riots, marches, torchlight rallies and burning administration buildings down.....except as diversionary tactics.

More sophisticated and subtle tactics will be employed to wreak terror and death. Universities will be used not only as targets, but as bases.....enabled by the existence of radical professors (Sami-al-Arian), lax diversity-focused presidents, regents and administrators, hormone-driven student leaders who are Che Gueverra wannabees, implanted foreign jihadist "students", alienated loners (Johnny Jihads), chemistry lab thieves, homegrown traitors, genetic anarchists, professional revolutionary students, and easily-brainwashed idealists living far away from the stability of home.

Except to the naive, our institutes of higher learning are no longer the ivy-covered homes of the saddle-shoed Andy Hardy and his sweatered girlfriends. There is every kind of person you can think of, patriotic, good, bad, indifferent and twisted.....including students up to the ages of 70. Ask anyone who works for a state university what he sees and hears every day.

We're already seeing the first signs of universities and colleges being used by shadowy terrorist cells here in the U.S. Three explosive incidents in a row at different schools in the past week or two is no quirky coincidence.

I personally believe what we are seeing are some tentative practice runs to carefully gauge the response and reactions of schools, federal and local law enforcement, the media and the public.

Jihadists have infinite patience and we have seen in 9/11 how they carefully study and set up missions over a relatively long period of time.

Right now, the reaction to the recent college incidents appears in general to be ho-hum. However, this is probably due in large part to government and media manipulation and secrecy. The public does not have enough information to connect any dots, so it shrugs its collective shoulders.

What is scary is that government and media manipulation and secrecy become part of the terrorist problem in itself.

Did anything say the substance was green?

When Penn Station was evacuated last week, a bottle contained green substance.

--Possibly fourth campus bombing --

My wife is a graduate student at UCLA and has an apartment at Weyburn Terrace, about two blocks south of Midvale Plaza. Her apartment is across an alley from Warren Hall, which I understand is a biochemistry building. She called me about 1AM Monday morning, 10/03/05, in a panic. She was awakened by a load explosion that shook her bed and rattled the walls. She went outside to find a cloud of smoke and fumes drifting towards Weyburn Terrace. She found an eyewitness among the students from all the surrounding apartment buildings who had also come outside. The eyewitness said that he had been on his balcony, smoking, when he saw a bright flash that appeared to come either from the second story or the roof of Warren Hall. Upon the arrival of the fire department and the police department, my wife went back to her apartment because she didn't know what was in the fumes. According to my wife, after looking around a bit, the firemen and police ascertained that all was o.k. and they left. At 4AM a second explosion occurred. This time my wife just looked outside, saw the comotion and went back to sleep.

Incredible. No mention at all whatsoever that the bottles were explosive, and that one of them did explode and injure someone. Anyone who reads this report and nothing else gets a totally incomplete impression of what actually occurred, and ends up with absolutely no idea of what really happened.

It's become obvious that we need to monitor these events right from the start, practically as soon as they happen and first get reported, because crucial info that gets released in the minutes and hours after the event gets spiked later on. Articles that are printed in the immediate wake of these events need to be posted here at FR and archived. Otherwise, it'll all disappear into a black hole.

I don't know what type of bottle bomb he used, i.e. vinegar/baking soda, dry ice/water, or the dangerous alcohol/chlorine bottle bomb. If it was the latter, I can see the concern of the authorities.
