And UCLA.
That's the first I've heard of an early morning explosion on October 3. I was told the October 7 explosion shook the surrounding area for a couple of blocks.
Today two freeways in L.A. were shut down (near Norwalk) because of a suspicious backpack.
Too many of these incidents.
Puberty.
Thank you for the ping.
Interesting "found packages", why do you think someone would have a bag of fireworks at a garage sale?
Water does not detonate... I wonder what was in the copper pipes, in the backpack, that were DETONATED at still another university campus?
Nothing here. Move along.
I'm guessing it was somewhere between the art building and the cafeteria. (Seeing as how they evacuated the cafeteria...) Clearly on the 5th street side.

ECU police probe bomb scare
By Corey G. Johnson The Daily Reflector
Saturday, October 15, 2005
ECU police are investigating a construction worker who left a backpack filled with copper piping unattended, causing a bomb scare, officials said Friday.
Although no evidence of explosive materials were found, the incident caused East Carolina University officials to empty buildings and evacuate students, facility and staff.
The man, whose name was not released, works for D.F. Simmons, Maj. Frank Knight of the ECU Police Department said.
No charges have been filed against the man, who admitted to owning the backpack and denied wrongdoing, Knight said.
"We're currently investigating how the copper got into the backpack," Knight said.
Police were called at 10:55 a.m. when another construction employee discovered a red backpack in bushes near the Mamie E. Jenkins Building, also known as the alumni building.
In response, campus officials evacuated the building and nearby Irwin, Jenkins Fine Arts and Old Cafeteria buildings, ECU spokeswoman Nancy McGillicuddy said.
The Greenville Police Department, Pitt County Sheriff's Office, Greenville Fire-Rescue Department and Greenville utilities were called for assistance.
"This is definitely an example of an event (where) we didn't want to take any chances with," McGillicuddy said.
"We hold safety at the utmost importance."
Brenda the sheriff's office bomb-sniffing dog indicated the possibility of a bomb, a Marine explosive ordinance team from U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point was called in for assistance.
"We took the extra security and safety measure of calling on the bomb dog and the Cherry Point team partly because of the current world conditions and the recent incident at Georgia Tech," Knight said.
Monday, three explosive devices were found between two Georgia Tech dormitories. One device exploded, injuring a custodian.
The local military bomb squad found no evidence of explosive materials.
Scrap copper is at an all-time high. The perp may very well have been stealing scrap from his employer, using the backpack to conceal it.
Yes, thank you, I was kind of stuned and I knew someone would come up with the other.
Does anyone know how a water cannon blows up copper pipe?
I don't want to beat a dead horse or a bunch of copper pipe that someone might have just been lifting for ice cream money. But DETONATING copper pipes with a water cannon...what part of that doesn't lead from point A to point B? Unless it's just poor journalism, and nothing actually blew up.
When I read that the bomb squad "detonated" the backpack I figured that was just a misstatement. The same thought must have crossed your mind, too, 'cause you brought it up.
Don't misunderstand my position, I read this thread because I'm trying to keep abreast of these bomb threats. I only brought up the theft angle because I've seen copper stolen in trash bags, backpacks, coolers, tool bags, etc.
Maybe it really was a bomb. I want to know, and the media doesn't seem to be doing its job. Has anyone started a "Bomb Squad" ping list? I'd like to be on it.
Liberty, are you in charge of the bomb ping list? river rat would like on it.
I didn't misunderstand your position, I'm just trying to keep up too, and the copper theft angle makes good sense.
The report that the bomb squad detonated cooper pipe didn't : )
Definitively, if it was poor journalism...we can all move along.
Copper pipes... In a backpack? One that causes a K-9 unit (Hopefully one trained to sniff out explosives, not drugs) to alert. Then it's detonated with a water cannon? Copper pipes don't detonate, no matter how hard you hit them. Unless of course they are filled with something that smells like an explosive, then depending on the details, it might detonate when hit or dropped.
Indcons is keeping the NormanBombing/OUBombing ping list.
INDCONS: please add cf_river_rat to the Norman Bombing ping list. Thanks. (o:
FYI: I was thinking of developing a "Suspicious Packages" ping list to keep track of unrelated, but interesting stories along these lines. Let me know if you think this could be of use, or of interest. (I've got some email alerts set up to be on the lookout for articles that appear at Google for these topics.)
