Thank you very much for the ping freema. I'll look for more reports on this one. It's rather vague and as someone pointed out the writer made a little mistake on the time. (o: Will post here if I find some.

Found a report with a little more in-depth information:
http://www.witntv.com/home/headlines/1791626.htmlSuspicious Backpack At ECU
Buildings were evacuated and the bomb squad called in after a suspicious backpack was discovered at East Carolina University. The unattended backpack was found behind the Jenkins building on the Greenville campus, prompting that building, the Irving building and the old cafeteria building to be evacuated. A K-9 unit detected something in the bag which could be used to make explosives. So, the Cherry Point Marine Corps Bomb Squad detonated it with a water cannon. Turns out it contained sections of copper pipe. The owner of the backpack was being held for questioning.
I'm glad they have the apparent owner of the bag in custody. Seeing as the dog detected something in the bag makes it interesting. I'll readily admit I'm unfamiliar with what the dogs are trained to detect though.
Finding these sorts of things on campus seems rather unsettling in light of the OU Bombing. Perhaps this kind of thing happens more often than we're aware of?

You're welcome. May very well be nothing to see here...but it's certainly strange, in light of OU and Georgia Tech, isn't it.
I've been trying to find info on the Greenville PD bomb squad, no luck, because I found it interesting that Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point was utilized.
This was allegedly a construction worker who left a backpack with 6 pipes. Weird.
