"an isolated incident"
In that there weren't odd looking, purportedly depressed little guys with chin hair, wearing backpacks filled with TATP, blowing themselves up all around Norman, OK, simultaneously. In this context, yes, it was pretty much isolated.
I was just wondering what the heck difference its being isolated makes if you and/or a friend and/or a loved one is/are the folk/s blown to smithereens?

It's basically meaningless fluff, tossed out to calm the masses, but the public takes "an isolated incident" to mean that it only happened that one time, and won't happen again.
Thanks for mentioning the sleaze factor of the source on that. At the time, which was right before I moved back up there for a few years, even *I* discounted it, when it would've been normal for me to want to believe it. All you have to say is keyword "White Bible" on the Boren crap.
With someone as scummy as Gene Stipe .. ewww, now I have to wash my hands for typing that name ... in the state, everyone else looked angelic.
My hubby at the time and I had many gay friends in OKC (some even Pubbies) and loved them dearly, as I was part of a community theatre group and they were the "funnest" people in town. They'd have been the first to clue me in on Boren and they said "no."
The real warning should be, if you go outside the stadium to smoke a cigarette, be sure you know who you're sitting next to when you sit down on a bench.
Sooner.. we will be in Austin, going to beat those long whorns.
Go Tech.
"be sure you know who you're sitting next to when you sit down on a bench."
Or, alternately, don't sit anywhere near someone who is stinking of too much cologne, and wearing baggy clothes or a backpack?

The above link originally posted by OKSooner is a news clips which covers the new security procedures at OU. At the end of the clip they state that Texas Tech has announced new plans via newspaper and TV, Missouri has developed a DVD, and Baylor has something prepared to be played on their Jumbotrons. Not sure about other ones, but that's 4 universities that have announced security procedures dealing with evacuations.
Thanks for reposting that link.
M. Lamb. Hmm any relation to Sheeple as in American Sheeple?
Bet that surv. camera is outside Boren's office (Sarcasm).
Ahhh, so it's Big 12 problem!
I agree with your statements. Personal lifestyle choices, as long as they do not affect your business or the public, should remain personal and confidential. IF Mr. Wright - and I don't know him, or his history either - is correct in his reports of the situation the problem becomes one affecting national security and at that point one's personal life becomes more of a concern, obviously.
It would appear to be so...
Sure thing. Thanks for finding it. (o:

Oh, what's all the fuss about? Everyone knows the Religion of Peace fanatics can be easily reasoned with. Some hugs, some hand holding and a few verses of 'Kumbaya' and all will be well. /sarcasm
Let's just see those b@stards screw with a UW Badger Football Saturday... ;)
Giving ME males extra attention is not irrational, un-PC though it is perceived to be. As far as native-born, prison is likely a major point of conversion to Islam, from what I've read, but this tends to apply more to black men than white men. So, having served time could serve as a flag, provided it was not segregated out by race, but it probably would be spun into harrassment anyway.
Still, age, gender and demeanor would likely be a good start, instead of wasting so much time and effort on a PC search of every single person getting on a plane (or entering a stadium, for that matter). And, I say that as a male between the age of 18 and 45, so it's not as if this would enable me to avoid inconvenience. As far as demeanor ... well, I think I'm a pretty nice guy, but that's a subjective call by its very nature, lol. I'd think most observers would be able to detect something "off kilter" though, if these observers or screeners had an ounce of intuition about them.
Of course, if screening of males gets too effective, there apparently are at least a few females willing to blow themselves up, too, although the payoff for doing so is a little vague, to me at least.
I agree that it's not irrational. I too have heard of recruitment of those in prison - as you point out this is mostly in regards to young black males - some of whom have ties to organized gangs.
This whole subject bothers me as I was brought up to believe in Benjamin Franklin's view that (paraphrased) "Those who would sacrific liberty to achieve a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety..."
I don't know what the right way to deal with this problem is. I have problems with our government violating the Constitution, as they seem to do on an almost continual basis. However, it seems to me at this point that without the added surveillance measures currently used by some federal agencies we may have seen many more problems in our country since 9/11.
It's a tough call for those of us with strong feelings about the invasion of privacy and such. I don't want to live in a police state, but at the same time I can see investigations, undercover ops and such - that are truly vital to public safety - being hog-tied by restrictions upon some of their actions. Perhaps if there were more oversight, and the federal agencies like the FBI, and the ATF were more accountable for actions in which they targetted law abiding citizens people would be more willing to give them leeway.
If we took away the immunity clauses when catastrophic mistakes have been made perhaps that would prevent overzealous agents from abusing their investigative procedures. As it stands now though there are some within those organizations who would use extra leeway against otherwise good Americans - I've seen it happen too many times.
Yup...good points. A fine line to be walking on.
