THE OU BOMBER PAPERS: NO CLOSURE
michellemalkin.com ^ | November 29, 2005 03:58 PM | By Michelle Malkin

Posted on 11/29/2005 3:39:51 PM PST by Arizona

On Nov. 18, U.S. Magistrate Judge Valerie K. Couch released previously sealed records related to the FBI/Joint Terrorism Task Force search of Oklahoma University bomber Joel Hinrichs' apartment, his e-mail account and nine OU computers.

I obtained the nearly 350 pages of unsealed court documents just before Thanksgiving last week and reviewed them over the weekend (a big thank you to Cheryl in Judge Couch's office and TaraLeigh Teupker of Business Courier Service of Oklahoma City for their prompt responses and assistance). It would have been nice if an MSM outlet with boundless time, resources, and manpower--say, CBS News--had made the unsealed documents available to the public. But they didn't. So I spent several hours scanning and uploading as many of the records as I could (thanks to my web guy Mark Jaquith for technical help).

You can view the first 94 pages of the docs here . . . . . . . . . . . .

Michelle Malkin's web site is a rich source of up-to-the-minute analysis of the news. This particular article is a long read, I haven't got through all of it, but found it fascinating.

Since the MSM totally ignores much important news, it is most important that we pajama-clad news junkies pass the truth around the world through cyber space.

More from Michelle: . . . . "Yet, on Nov. 23, Vaughn Ververs of CBS News criticized bloggers who theorized about the OU bomber for being "strangely silent" about the unsealed documents and advised us to "correct the record" based on his reading of one news article. Ververs does not say whether he or anyone else at his hallowed news network actually obtained or read the court records. If he hasn't done so, isn't his uninformed push for bloggers to "correct" themselves, well, strange?"

What's "closure?"

I think in this case "Closure" would be "telling me what I want to hear."

The documents also confirm local Oklahoma media reports on the presence of TATP, "called the 'Mother of Satan' by Islamist extremists," in Hinrichs' apartment (p. 90)

Oh, but he was just your average depressed American boy next door who wasn't associated with any Religion of Pieces!

Case not closed.

No matter how much the powers that be want it to be, this case and others of it's kind are far from closed.

In my case, it's "tell us the truth." So far, they've not mentioned a lot of what we know went on. But that's ok, go put your head in the sand. Even if it won't all go away, at least you can continue to be unaware.

I really feel truly sorry for people whose frustration and disappointment at the absence of Islamic terror attacks in the US is so great they have to invent them.

You're really seeing a collective self-reinforcing psychosis; in the case of FR, I DO think it's declining, thankfully...no longer every time there's an industrial explosion or fire do you see many posters eagerly proclaiming it a terrorist attack and flaming anyone who dares to disagree, as you did a couple years ago...but it's still there.

I thought you were referring to post # 8 and "Mother of Satan",but I guess either would be correct.

I was at the game when the bombing took place. I've kept my eye on this story for some time.

A good friend of mine has a sister that works with the university. She told him many things we've seen on these threads. She said that the Norman bomb squad was particularly busy that night emptying his apartment (many explosions at the shooting range).

She also predicted that this story would go away. Pres. Boren doesn't want anything to reflect badly on OU. And he has that much political power in OK.. So far, she's right.

I don't have the secret decoder ring. I have no idea what #8 is about.

With Ms. Malkin on the trail, and thanks to the internet, it will be harder for Pres. Boren to suppress this story.

"...The documents feature the list of items the FBI searched for in Hinrichs' apartment (see page 6), as well as items seized on Oct. 3 (pg. 9), including:

White bag with can of acetone
Powder from ammo can
Hobby fuse
Softswim clarifier bag
Explosive prep
Explosive experiments and paraphenalia
Liquid fire
Circuit board
Misc. papers
6 rolls of tape

"The affidavit of FBI special agent Jennifer Baker provides additional details of the bombing scene (pp. 16-28), including the recovery of a "white sock containing pieces of plastic" and at least "two wires protruding from the sock," as well as "a screwdriver with a hollow handle and white sock stuffed partially inside the handle," a "blue opaque ballpoint pen" with a "small razor consistent with an Exacto knife attached to the opposite end from the pen" and a "bullet casing of unknown caliber" attached to it (p. 18). Odd possessions for a depressed loner just trying to end his own singular life."

"The documents also confirm local Oklahoma media reports on the presence of TATP, "called the 'Mother of Satan' by Islamist extremists," in Hinrichs' apartment (p. 90), as well as Hinrichs' suicide message:

..Among the items located in Heinrich's room was a quantity of white powder determined to be 0.4 lbs of triacetone triperoxide, TATP. Precursor chemicals used to make TATP. A laptop computer in screensaver mode. When the mouse was moved a text document appeared which contained notes apparently written by Hinrichs to himself. The cursor was at the following phrase: "F--- all this. None of you are worth living with. You can all kiss my a--."

"Beyond this, unfortunately, there's not much more of interest in the documents. None of the hundreds of e-mails in Hinrichs' Yahoo.com account accessed by the FBI/JTTF are included in the release. Nor are the names or URLs of any of the websites he visited from his home computer or any of the nine campus computers searched by the FBI/JTTF. The last line of Hinrichs' suicide message is reported, but not the rest of the text document. So, was he simply a troubled soul, a freelance Islamist bent on mass murder at the OU football stadium, or something else? The unsealed papers neither prove nor disprove any of these theories."
