Snorer in the court? Ruth Bader Ginsburg snoozes

Justice dozes off during political redistricting hearing, colleagues let her sleep

Was it a case of dreaming of a better America, napping on the job, or just being asleep at the switch?

Serving on the highest court in the land is apparently a tiring affair for at least one Supreme Court justice who caught 40 winks on the bench, literally.

According to the Associated Press, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg snoozed during testimony today over political redistricting in Texas.

"The subject matter was extremely technical," notes AP writer Gina Holland, "and near the end of the argument Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg dozed in her chair."

During a report by Megyn Kendall of Fox News, an artist's sketch of the hearing was aired with Ginsburg's head using the bench as a pillow.

There was no word if there was any audible snoring echoing through the esteemed chamber, but the sleep session was noticed by Bader's colleagues who made a snap judgment to let their associate continue her slumber.

"Justices David Souter and Samuel Alito, who flank the 72-year-old, looked at her but did not give her a nudge," writes Holland.

The bad news is, she can still fog a mirror.

You are correct; Specter blows hot and cold more than any other of the "moderates"; this is as opposed to Snowe, Collins and Chaffee who can usually be counted on to blow cold when the heat is on.

Let Scalia or Thomas fall asleep on the job and see if the reporting resembles this.

If Scalia, Thomas, Alito, or Roberts fell asleep, that would be on the FRONT PAGE.

"Justice dozes off during political redistricting hearing, colleagues let her sleep"

Sounds like a good solution to the problem of Ginsberg...

In local courts, they have to be approved; I'd be surprised if it was different at the USSC.

Imagine what the Lame Stream Media would be saying if it were one of the conservative judges.

We would be getting toxic levels of their editorial opinions with the "news" they broadcast.

This is true, but you have to admit most of it comes from lies from people gunning for Bush.

Why stay awake when you have already made up your mind on how you will rule on the case.

She did not miss any testimony...she missed oral argument. There is a difference....

Regardless, (harsh reality alert)I'm sure her clerks were there, and that is all that really matters

Could you imagine the firestorm if this was Clarence Thomas or Scalia?

This was the point some of us tried to make yesterday when Dobson released that note he got from Alito thanking him for his support; it was a personal note and he should have just kept it to himself.

Imagine the firestorm around here is Ruth had dropped a note to the ACLU thanking them for helping her get on the court.

For what it's worth, lots of old people also fart in their sleep...

She did have cancer before and could be weak.

Then she should remove herself from the court if she is no longer capable of handling her duties.
