Apparently, she does a lot of snoring and sleeping on the job as her health continues to be an increasing problem.

I think Stevens is going to retire. If Ginsberg's cancer is flaring up again that could well be two seats. Ginsberg may happen before the elections. There is no way either of these two will voluntarily retire and let Bush name their replacement. They know the balance of the court as well as anyone.

So would I, but if a court artist did that, she's gone. Why?

The only sketch artist in the Supreme Court would have to be approved by the justices.
I cannot imagine a sketch artist getting back in there if she/he really drew a picture to make Ginzburg look bad.

Could you imagine the firestorm if this was Clarence Thomas or Scalia?

Heck... if Bush replaces Ginsburg with a Janice Rogers Brown (or similar)... I won't even complain if he wants to put Gonzales on the court for Stevens (still a massive move to the right of course).

According to the Associated Press, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg snoozed during testimony today over political redistricting in Texas. With rare exceptions (and this is not one of them), the SCOTUS does not hear "testimony," but rather, it hears oral argument. The author's inability to understand the difference leads me to wonder whether he was the one sleeping on the job.

The sketch artist is normally hired by the news media, to fill in for lack of photos, not the Court.

I went to the USSC on a 7th or 8th grade field trip. The ushers threatened us about talking, etc., and told us
that if it appeared the justices were sleeping, they really were not....
Don't remember the exact case, only that it was something about business. Pretty empty court, though.
To: Howlin
That's what they've been aiming for isn't it?
I said right after Alito was nominated that Stevens is going to retire at the end of this session. You could see it in his face when he was with President Bush. He likes the caliber of judges Bush is nominating and, even though he's quite left leaning, it would matter to him that he is replaced with someone with those kinds of credentials.
I really don't think the media has done the damage it thinks it has. People are pretty turned off and by now they are tuning out. The red states are going to stay red, the blue states are going to stay blue, and the congress is pretty much going to remain as it is right now.
