Eichmann Begged for Mercy Before Hanging

Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann penned a plea for his life to Israel’s president two days before he was hanged in 1962 for masterminding the “Final Solution” plan to exterminate 6 million Jews.

During a ceremony marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Wednesday, Israeli President Reuven Rivlin released the handwritten clemency plea to then-President Yitzhak Ben-Zvi.

Eichmann claimed he was just following orders and was not high-ranking enough to order the mass murder of Jews.

Not senior enough? He was one of 15 senior officials at the Wannsee Conference and the meeting recorder. It was reportedly Himmler himself who ordered Eichmann to use euphemisms in the meeting notes. The guy was in it up to the neck that the hangman broke. No sympathy at all.

The tone of the article tries to make Eichmann seem whiny, pathetic, craven, begging for mercy.

I don't think that was the case. Seems to me that in Eichmann was attempting to layout "the facts" to one of those poor inferiors who, without his own super-aryan thinking skills, was unable to grasp his (Eichmann's) obvious lack of guilt. Breathtaking arrogance on display.
