“They will NOT BE STOPPING or impeding traffic. They will NOT be going into DC. The convoy will repeat this slow roll encircling of DC every day until their demands - an end to national COVID emergency.”

Then I am afraid it will do absolutely no good.

It will do a lot of good. It will show that Americans can always make peaceful protests and usually choose to do things that way rather than breaking the laws of their country.

Then I am afraid it (not blocking traffic) will do absolutely no good.

Maybe, but the convoy is about freedom, and they should honor the freedom of those who want to use those highways for their own purpose.

God forbid they offend or inconvenience any swamp rats. Pathetic. We are so screwed.

One-third of the DC workforce likely takes that highway (the rest on 1-66 or the trains). If you have seen DC traffic, you will know the trucks will turn a one-hour commute into a four hour commute, making utter hell for alternate routes and side streets at the same time. This is affecting the people who are writing the rules. It is a good play.

The Convoy was never going to do much at all. Political authorities ignore protests unless there is an "OR ELSE" provision which involves replacement of those political authorities.

That was never part of the Trucker's Convoy planning. Real concessions would require something like a general strike as a follow-up. We are not there yet.

Think of it as a rally to draw attention and motivate supporters. Just enough drama to do that but not enough visible threat to draw serious reprisals from the Government. At least not yet. We have seen what the Candian government did. They ruined the lives of a great many people.

So did the US Government with the Jan 6 protestors.

There is no point to sacrificing people in a frontal attack which is a losing fight.

The current political and corporate authorities benefit from keeping people fearful and impoverished. That makes us easier for them to control. That also requires the complete destruction of the middle class, as that is where potential rivals originate. That also requires the firm subjugation of the working class. The underclass and criminal groups are useful shock troops for political authorities to keep up the pressure and fears.

It is an unstable proposition, one very much in conflict with the traditional American culture. Protests and rallies are a reasonable start at opposing the proposition, but they are only a start.

It would only do good if there really, truly are 1000 or more trucks.....I’m not convinced it’s that big, much less “7000” (or 38,000 planned, per Breitbart).

If there were LOTS of TRACTOR-TRAILERS (emphasis on TRAILERS - just tractor cabs don’t count), then it would make the Beltway more of a mess than it already is. THAT would get attention. Even if it takes a while.

As it is, I’m still not seeing alot of reports so evidently, it hasn’t been that impressive.

We’ll see tomorrow? When “gridlock” typically happens.

Even worse, this was in the Channel 4 article I posted:

‘The People’s Convoy group “has been working with local and state law enforcement to find the best time to travel,” spokesperson Lynne Kristensen said.’

IOW, they’re trying to be really, really nice. They don’t WANT to hold up traffic.

So this will be lame. No one will really notice. And that is the point of protest.

The Trump caravan around the DC Beltway in Oct ‘20 seemed to have more impact than this is looking to. (My cousin happened to drive along it when returning home that day - we were in the [small] Baltimore caravan.)
