In short, the human mind is the new battlefield, and what better way to conquer it than by weaponizing an app currently used by 150 million Americans?
Same as Facebook, CNN, MSNBC, All the alphabets...
No difference.
My guess is that the above are afraid of the competition.
“the core of the Chinese concept of psychological warfare is to manipulate those audiences by affecting their thought processes and cognitive frameworks.”
This sounds like the CIA’s Project Mockingbird and its successors and assigns.
For what it’s worth, ByteDance is headquartered in Singapore now and has a highly intelligent Singaporean CEO who doesn’t seem to be nearly as beholden to Xi Jinping’s regime as, say, Gavin Newsom. I’m sure TikTok (I personally don’t use it) features plenty of Chinese propaganda, though probably a lot less than university professors and NGO leaders post daily on LinkedIn.
The vast majority of the social media propaganda I see lately is pro-Palestinian, pro-migrant, pro-little brown people rising up and overthrowing big white people. This message has vast influence among the young and is disseminated by a lot of evidently well-paid influencers. Iran and Qatar are no doubt paying the bills as a relatively cheap way to stir up anti-Israel hatred - and it is sure working. I don’t hear Congress talking about sanctioning either nation.
As for collecting personal information, whenever you sign up for any social site you have to construct a public persona - a limited set of information about yourself that you are willing to let other people know. For FR it’s great - all we do is give Jim Robinson an e-mail address, pick a silly screen name, and we are good. People should gravitate toward sites like FR if they want relative anonymity. If our kids are stupid about sharing personal information online, well, whose fault is that?
With this proposed TikTok ban I feel like I am watching Tipper Gore and the PMRC vs. heavy metal all over again. Government always favors cheap and inadequate rule-making to score political points over advocating individual responsibility.
That would be just fine if they were the only ones to suffer.
Getting their news on TikTok
Oxymoron TikTok is a CCP propaganda operation and the fools rush in for it.
The slow witted are the last to learn and the first to go.
“It’s not often that journalists on both sides of the political aisle agree on a particular issue. However, with TikTok—from the New York Post to The New York Times, The Washington Post to the Washington Examiner—everyone seems to agree that TikTok is a destructive app.”
*********************************************
Yeah they all agree they don’t like the competition for viewership. Once they take Twitter down (which they are working on now) there will be few social media sites left that aren’t censored by the government in some fashion.
Youre a running dog ccp tool.
“No reason to ban TikTok unless you advocate censorship.”
This is ccp. Communist china tiktok. They dont get american citizen rights ya bozo.
Spit.
Can’t be any worse than The Hill or The Asspress.
