I think you are just reading it wrong. This is simple game strategy. When you are clobbering the competition you don’t need to take risks. Like a football or basketball team - if you are ahead by an insurmountable advantage you take your starting line off the field. Don’t risk injury.
If Trump were to go on that stage he would be savagely attacked mostly by Christie and probably Haley. DeSantis, a bit. And, he would give them an opportunity to shine if they happen to get a good retort in that would be played as soundbites on the news for 24 hours and go viral on social media. Trump is simply avoiding the risk of an unforced error. And if I am honest, he does make a few unforced errors from time to time. Usually he’s just trying to be funny but ends up giving his detractors fodder for social media and the news cycle.
Since none of the others will be the nominee and nobody will watch the debate, why the need to upstage them?

I voted for Trump when the only alternative was Hillary and Biden, but now there is someone running that I truly support who is a true conservative who gets results without any of the headache inducing circus drama, preening, and bright and shiny objects blinking around him.

The RNC says only Trump, DeSantis, and Haley qualified for the debate, and Trump has scheduled this town hall at the same time, so it looks like the debate will be DeSantis and Haley one on one.

My guess is you have never bothered to look at the actual achievements of the Trump administration treaties, VA, armed forces, red tape elimination, trade deals and too many to list (hence the link).
As far as DeSantis as a true conservative that’s laughable. I think you do not know the meaning of the word conservative. It means more than some cynical, highly publicized, posturing. DeSantis record in congress does not support your assertion nor does his alignment with big business and globalism.
In 2024, you can vote for America and America first principles, or you can vote one of the also ran losers, or you can even vote dummycrat, if you like. But only one man stands for America. Perhaps you might be more suited for DU?

If the propaganda media was actually interested in the public’s learning the positions of the candidates, they would not have “speeches” by the moderators. They would have topics with each candidate given a certain amount of time. Perhaps the candidates could ask each other questions as well.
The RNC is the leader of the party of collusion (Republicans) so they do nothing to improve the format of these so-called debates.
When Trump is the nominee I hope he has many one on one interactions with the Democrat’s nominee.
Freedom you’ve piqued my interest. If it was just Trump and his opponent with no moderator it would be in the interests of each to be on their better behavior. That’s something the left couldn’t handle.
