Someone on another thread caught that. Auschwitz is in Poland. It’s rather easy to connect the dots.
The meaning as you said is to die in Poland.

One book about the Holocaust said that some people believe that each person who converts to Judaism is taking the place in life of one victim who died in the Holocaust.
