I doubt that Trump will win New York. But what if the polls show movement to Trump in NY because of all the time he is forced to spend there. The DNC would be panicked. Resources would be diverted to NY, because if Biden loses NY, his goose is cooked.

Even if Trump can’t win NY there is no such thing as bad free national publicity and the trial is drawing a lot of eyes and ears. And some dems, seeing robust, energetic, fighting Trump will look at Sleepy Joe and just say screw-it and not vote. Or vote for RFK Jr.
I agree. However I will say this: if there is any year it has even a ghost of a chance, it's this one. Crime rampant and aggressively not punished. Homelessness going nuts because of the illegals. Cost of living skyrocketing. NYC leadership laughable. And Trump is a NYC icon, he's one of the most well known New Yorkers of the last century and everyone in NYC basically grew up with Trump on their TV screens and newspaper headlines. I mean, when will circumstances ever so favor a republican having a chance to upset the apple cart?

It’s not just Trump being competitive in Néw York and New Jersey it’s the down the ballot races as well there are some very competitive districts out there if Trump voters come out in force like they may just do.
