The US House of Representatives on Wednesday voted overwhelmingly in favor of the bipartisan Antisemitism Awareness Act, CNN reported.
The bill would mandate that when the Department of Education enforces federal anti-discrimination laws it uses a definition of antisemitism put forward by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance.
The House vote was 320 to 91 with 70 Democrats and 21 Republicans voting against the bill. The GOP opposition largely came from the right flank of the conference. The bill would next need to be taken up by the Senate.
New York Republican Mike Lawler, who introduced the legislation, said in a statement, “It’s critical that we crack down on antisemitic hate within our own country.”
“I’m thankful for the bipartisan support of the Antisemitism Awareness Act and for the support from a wide range of Jewish organizations that are standing up, endorsing this legislation, and saying enough is enough,” he added.

Horrible.
This sort of definition covers the criticism of the state of Israel or the observation of areas of power where Jews dominate.
Department of Education won’t enforce the law if it’s passed.
And the 70 Democrats? What flank were they from? Barney Frank Flank? Jerry Nadler diabetes flank?
There are some in the GOP who just don't like the government involved these kinds of virtue signaling e.g. Rand Paul (though he's a Senator). They are more libertarian/constitutionalist than "right". They don't need no stinking bill to know racism when they see it
The left, well I bet it was a hodgepodge of the far left bartender/barrista squad and a handful of frightened little squirms with a lot of Arabs and Muslims in their districts.
Never mind that quaint old First Amendment stuff. Totally obsolete.
What are the details.
“Antisemitism is wrong, but I will not be voting for the Antisemitism Awareness Act of 2023 (H.R. 6090) today that could convict Christians of antisemitism for believing the Gospel that says Jesus was handed over to Herod to be crucified by the Jews,”
The words of MTG. The woman is as dumb as a bag of hammers.
I looked it up. It only covers Education Institutions.
So dumb.
First Amendment
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the FREEDOM OF SPEECH, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Reminder. This amendment was written to protect unpopular speech.
Schumer doesn’t care how much you hate him as long as the check clears! This bill will die in the senate.
Anti Semitism used to mean someone who doesn’t like jews
now it means someone a jew doesn’t like
This is hilarious to watch. It was these very college campuses that opened this Pandora’s Box with speech codes many years ago...which of course morphed into the cancel culture we have now.
Careful what you wish for libtards...
The whole thing is meaningless. You don’t need an act of Congress to know that stabbing a young woman in the eye with a flag is a criminal act. The meaningful part of it is meant to criminalize free speech, as you correctly point out. This is just another empty virtue signal after academia, local, state and federal government let a sh!t-storm of hate run rampant nationwide in supposed institutions of higher learning. This is too little and too late. The NYPD were the only good guys this time. But the self-congratulation will be non-stop.
Blahblahblahblah. Blahblahblahblah. WOOOOO! WOOOO!
I can only hope that the Jewish students, faculty and administrative staff who were subjected to these attacks will come to their senses and make Aliyah. This is not the America that I grew up in, that my grandmother went through grueling medical inspections at Ellis Island to get into, or anything resembling what America’s supposed to be. Let their clueless Awareness Act be damned. I spit on it.
To h—l with that for me, NEVER! I will stay and fight to the death for my USA!
Oh please, Jew hating Nazis are running the colleges
Prove me wrong
You’ll have to reestablish it from the ground up. I wish you luck. It’s worth fighting for. Whatever fighting I can do, it’ll have to be from here, and with my vorpal keyboard in hand. Physically, I wouldn’t be an asset, but I can’t be extradited for saying “shoot them as they cross the Rio Grande”.
Why? The shoe fits.
Almost like there were agent provocateurs out there to the get this passed by helping the current mobs and real protestors. J6 was full of instigators.
But it’s not meaningless if this is how they role out curbs on free speech.
