“The federal government gives $149 billion annually to American universities.”

How much of this is for research. My project was funded with a federal grant.

I’ll say it again. Emphasize community college trade schools and put them on the trimester system. No Sommer-long vacations. Get to work.

That research is done by graduate student slaves working on their PHDs. The ones getting a 35K annual stipend to live on.
This is why my son chose to NOT get a PHD in Biotechnology. He was offered placement at three schools. Accepted one at Ga Tech then decided against it.

I sat next to a guy on an airline flight who was in charge of managing NASA grant money. He was returning from Dartmouth. He had been a USAF pilot and an alternate space shuttle astronaut. He never got picked to go up in space though. At Dartmouth they were studying why space travel effects every astronaut’s eye balls. Everyone spending time on the International Space station becomes near sited.

Most of it is via research grants.

My university is a research university and lives on government grants.

It is also a state university, and as such gets state money as well in the form of a 'per head' payment. But that money has gotten smaller and smaller over the past 2 decades, so that student tuition which used to account for less than 1/4 the total cost of an undergraduate degree (with the rest made up for by the state) now accounts for 3/4 of the cost of an undergraduate degree (with the state picking up the last 1/4.)

Major donor grants also account for a significant portion of the budget, but the vast majority is earmarked for new building construction, not scholarships or faculty endowed positions.

Do any such projects deal with topics related to DEI? "How America Is Fundamentally Ray-cist?"

I have worked on several NIH and NSF funded projects at universities, in some cases as a Principal Investigator! And I went to Harvard graduate school on an NSF Fellowship!

All our great new lifesaving cancer therapies were initially developed via federal grants to universities!

Science students and faculty are MUCH less likely to support leftist causes like “Palestine”, or to shout down invited speakers whom leftists hate! They don’t have time to interrupt their research!

Keep the science grant pipeline flowing!
