GOP senators amused as Ted Cruz seeks to move bill: ‘The foot’s on the other hand’

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has become the subject of much bemusement among his Senate GOP colleagues as he has taken a detour from his role as a conservative rabble-rouser to playing the lead on reauthorizing the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The Texas senator, long-known for stirring up trouble for leadership, has suddenly gone in the reverse as he has prodded Republicans against gumming up the works for the last must-pass bill in Congress for months.

But the irony is not lost on lawmakers who have watched Cruz’s mischief up close and personal, especially on government spending battles throughout the years.

“It’s been entertaining to be able to watch,” one Senate Republican told The Hill before quoting the movie “Airplane!” “What’s the old Hollywood joke? The foot’s on the other hand.”

Multiple senators told The Hill that Cruz has been on the receiving end of numerous jokes from colleagues during weekly Senate GOP luncheons each of the past two weeks. Most members have given him high marks for his work on the FAA, but can’t help themselves as Cruz tries to keep the bill on track to pass ahead of Friday’s midnight deadline and keep unrelated amendments out of a final bill.

Sounds like he is trying to avoid "the bloat"...from the article:

"...as Cruz tries to keep the bill on track to pass ahead of Friday’s midnight deadline and keep unrelated amendments out of a final bill."

In the Senate, Schumer has control and can add to bills as he pleases.

It is up to the House and House Republicans to prepare proper bills and pass them, passing the bills on to the Senate for its approval.

If $35 trillion in federal debt is not redeemed with money of corresponding value, there are going to be adverse consequences. Teachers may find their summer vacation dollars are not acceptable outside the USA.

“as Cruz tries to ... keep unrelated amendments out of a final bill.”

I suspect that’s the rub. Establishment Dims and Repukes alike love to lard up bills with unrelated spending for pet pork projects.

The joke is on those who joked about it. Because I suspect in time violence will break out as things become worse for everyday citizens. Desperate people quickly become extremely dangerous people. Just sayin’.

Yup. The article is trying to mislead, and sadly a few Freepers are falling for it.

There’s a collation of RINOs and then brigade that still calls Cruz “Lyin Ted” that oppose all things Cruz.

Both equally stupid.

Voters love pork, lots and lots of it, when it comes their way.

They hate everybody else’s pork.

Other than one or two senators, this article highlights the problem with the GOP.

They’re all go-along-to-get-along do-nothings.

They call Cruz a “rabble-rouser”(or the journalist does - whatever)

Why aren’t there 40 GOP rabble-rousers? Why aren’t there 45 GOP rabble-rousers? They’re all worthless. Except for two or three of them.

Why isn’t every GOP senator trying to out-rabble-rouse the last rabble-rouser, get a leg up on the last rabble-rouse and one-up on the next rabble-rouse? Why are they all trying to appease Biden?

Appeasement doesn’t work. They are all weak! That’s what the article shows, they are all weak.
