OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — In one of the most closely watched congressional races this year, U.S. Rep. Don Bacon of Nebraska is looking to defeat a fellow Republican in Tuesday's primary election in his quest for reelection. He'll have to do it without the support of the state Republican Party, which has endorsed his primary challenger.
Bacon, whose district includes the state's largest city of Omaha, isn't the only one being snubbed. The Nebraska GOP, which was taken over by those loyal to former President Donald Trump during a contentious state convention in 2022, has refused to endorse any of the Republican incumbents who hold all five of the state's congressional seats.
The state party has endorsed primary challengers to U.S. Sen. Pete Ricketts and Rep. Adrian Smith, who represents the state's vast rural 3rd Congressional District. And it has declined to issue endorsements in the primary races of U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer and Rep. Mike Flood, who represents the 1st Congressional District that includes the state capital of Lincoln. Both Fischer and Flood face primary challengers who entered those races after the Nebraska GOP announced its endorsement decision in January.
It's an oddity that lays bare the bitter divide between Trump loyalists who control the Nebraska GOP, as well as several county Republican parties, and the more establishment-type Republicans who were previously at the helm, said John Hibbing, a longtime University of Nebraska-Lincoln political science professor.

>>“It’s not a good look,” Hibbing said. “You’d like the faces of your party, who would be your elected representatives, and the state party leaders to be on the same page.”
Oh they will be, Hibbing... they will be.
They always seek out the commentary of some political science professor...who will vote the Democrat in November.
What about splitting the electoral votes? Is there an update on that? After primaries I guess they’ll lean into whatever is best for Biden.
By purporting to define the human aspect of politics, “political science” loses any claim to “science”.
It is apparent that “political science” is nothing more than a sociological molding discipline.
It is intended to institute a system more akin to Orwell’s 1984 than to a free thinking society.

You’re correct. In one of Richard Nixon’s books, he called politics an art, not a science. And I think he’s correct.
Time to clean house.
Worst written article I’ve seen lately. Journalists fail.
Political science is a ballot counting scheme.
ALL of those GOP incumbents are stealth democrats, including Deb Fischer. I wish there were a way to punish them more instead of just throwing them out of office.
Personally, I think RINO’s should be imprisoned awaiting execution by military firing squad. /spit
AP article take it unserious. 2 senators being challenged? They may need a fire lit under their ass but we need them both.
The Republican Party needs an enema.
They are being challenged from the RIGHT. Whoever wins (except in Bacon’s district) has no chance of losing in November.
We can do far better than these squishes in this very safe state with 2 very safe congressional districts and only 1 marginal one, so why not at least try?
Not that anything is actually going to change. These challengers collectively have about $1.50 to work with against massively well-funded incumbents. Anyone who is rooting for the squishy incumbents is going to be pleased and relieved when tonight’s results come in (except *maybe* for fans of Don Bacon, if any exist).
Just wow—a quick Google search on the “reporter” Margery Beck informs us that she is a “newswoman” and that she has written for The Independent and is listed on the site of People’s World—”continuing The Daily Worker”. Great job, AP—no sign of political bias here!
Yep, one of my pet peeves. Science is based on duplicating the original experiment with the same result, confirming the hypothesis. But humans change from moment to moment, hence you can never replicate the experiment.
Well, it is the AP. What else could we expect from American Pravda..
Jerry Pournelle called “political science” one of the voodoo “sciences”. He was not a fan.

2 of the 3 are solid red. I saw a recent map showing the 3rd one red.
None of these opponents have raised any money of note. The incumbents have million dollar war chests (Mike Flood spent most of his, but could have raised more not shown).
Even biology stops being a science at the brain/mind/personality level.
Can’t be “quantum-fied”.
