Russian Lawmaker: Holy Bible, Other Sacred Text and Objects a Must for Conscripts
Global Orthodox ^ | 10/8/22

As the present draft brings more and more young men into the Russian Armed Forces, questions often arise regarding the religious life of the conscripts. With this regard, a member of the State Legislative Assembly from the United Russia party Mr. Sergei Kolunov has offered clarifications:

“Many of the volunteers and conscripts going belong to various religious confessions. They must certainly have an opportunity to pray and read holy books. Christians take, for example, a cross with an icon, a prayer book, and a Bible with them . . . and this is the right thing to do”.

He also noted the necessity of the free access of the servicemen to the clergy at the front line, referring to those clergymen who "in the time of the WWII prayed under the bullets and fearlessly went into battle, saving people physically and spiritually, just as it should be the case even now”.

Sacred texts of the traditional religions contain substantial encouragement to defending the homeland.

I don't know what church attendance is in Russia, or where you get your figures.

Regardless - Government, and its media/propaganda, set the moral and political tone for a nation, both in Russia - and the USA. In Russia they are telling the citizens "Our nation are Christians," whether the majority of citizens believe it or not.

In the the USA, our government and media are telling citizens "Our nation are woke, globohomo supporters" whether the citizens believe it or not

How about Rifles, Uniforms, Winter Gear and Boots?

Am I falling for propaganda in believing that the draftees are being poorly prepared for battle? I suppose. I do find it hard to believe this is such a problem for Russia.

The neoCONs want you to think the year is 1985 and that Russia is still atheist & communist, yet once again we see Russia promoting Christianity more than the satanic pedo in the white hut.

Golden opportunity to make Russia an ally united in Christendom - lost after the Cold war. A perfect counter-balance to China, but NO , the neoCONs love sending others to war, and they love making money for the MIC.

Let us know when Russia has a lower abortion rate than the USA.

In 2020 there were 535,500 abortions in Russia according to Statista.com.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1034529/russia-total-number-of-abortions/

In 2020 there were 857,000 abortions in the USA according to the same source.

I suppose we can play mental gymnastics when comparing those numbers... but I am not sure that a country which performs 857,000 abortions can really claim the moral high ground over a country which performs 535,500 abortions.

This is especially true when the Russian government is taking action to reduce the abortion rate. Do we have similar government action discouraging the abortion culture here?

I am sorry Statista bugged out on me and I was going off of number provided in Search... There are of course conflicting numbers when it comes to this issue depending on the source. At least the Russian government is trying to do something about it.

According to the Guttmacher Institute, an estimated 930,160 abortions took place in the United States in 2020—up from 862,320 in 2017. Guttmacher’s selected annual abortion estimates for the last 20+ years are listed below:

Not really. The left is promoting their bastardized version of Christianity hard. Even running ads during NFL games. No different than what one party state fascist Russia is doing, actually. Neither of them have a genuine Christian bone in their bodies.

In Battle Bibles are important. If the Russians embrace the Christian faith it makes them more terrible. They will die for Mother Russia and mother Church faster than world socialism. General McArthur was right when he said; “There are no Atheists in the foxholes of Bataan!” We lost that battle but won the war. Russia is banking on the same thing. In the west we will tire of the endless bloodletting and money drain when Recession hits, and pull support for Mr. Zelenskyy as we did the Generals running South Viet Nam in 1972.

Not if they view Putin’s war as unjust, which they already do.

And no, the West won’t pull funding for Ukraine because of a recession.

Congress has already appropriated $52 billion, of which we’ve only delivered $17 billion. At the rate Biden is doling it out of $2 billion a month, we have another 18 months fundig already in the works.

It’s not going to be hard to get another $24 billion for Ukraine when we are spending $5 trillion+ a year. In fact, the last thing the administration would want to do is shut down the war factories and add to unemployment.

To the military, the war represents a chance to use up old equipment and replace it with new more modern versions. It’s a chance to reduce the threat from Russia for decades. And it’s a chance to develop strategies to deal with new threats such as Iranian drones.

The Russian abortion rate is 1/10th of what it was in the 1990s. It is still decreasing. The Russian government is actively discouraging abortions. In the US we have exactly the opposite situation taking place with Federal thugs tracking down and throwing those who have participated in abortion protests in prison.

There are of course many legitimate reasons to view the Russian government and leadership in a dim light. I am not so sure that the number of abortions being performed is the measure that we should be using to judge them by. At this point our own government and society is plunging into a cesspool of moral degradation.

Trends matter. In general, Russian culture is going one direction; ours is going in another. We have close friends who are a couple much younger than us. He is a First Sergeant in the US army. She is a Russian woman that he met while stationed in Japan. They have a young daughter who is still a toddler. They are one of the most wholesome young families that we know. When he was deployed for 9 months last year she went back to Russia to live with her parents so they could help her raise the baby. When his deployment ended they all came back. They rented their house to a Russian family while they were gone. We had no problems with them either.

We have a large Russian community in this area and also many Ukrainians. Many of them go to the same churches and even with the current conflict still manage to get along and stay friends in most cases. This is largely a political conflict that is characterized by a massive amount of propaganda. Trying to paint Russians or Ukrainian citizens with a dark brush is a mistake. The decadence of a large portion our own society and leadership have caused us to lose the moral high ground that we once held.

Thanks for presenting the NeoCon spin on a tragic situation. Some people find the huge increase in fuel prices, spending untold billions of dollars on one of the most corrupt regimes in history and the deaths and misery of millions to be problematic. And let's not forget the threat of starting WWIII and incinerating millions more over something that has no actual strategic value to citizens of the USA to be repulsive... but it's all wine and roses to you... isn't it?

It’s Putin that’s causing the deaths.

It was the Biden’s who bribed Ukraine with $1 billion of aid for their country.. Not Ukraine bribing the Bidens.

The deaths and misery of millions can be laid directly at Putin’s feet. He’s the one that has caused the dislocation of 14 million peopple and that’s not counting the 700,000 men who fled Russia to avoid this unjust war.

But appeasement won’t avoid the deaths and misery. Apeasment, just means Putin has even more resources and 43 million Ukrainians, he can conscript into his future war on the baltics and/or Poland.

This war has to be stopped now with Ukrine winning back their freedom and their land. And Russia being pushed back to their borders.
