The Names and Titles of God (The Second (Last) Adam)

1 Corinthians 15:45

45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

My mailbox was getting very ratty-looking, and it was definitely time for a replacement. I dug out the old post and discovered a thriving nest of Florida Termites. I was so shook up by this appalling, vile, nest of scum and villainy, that I vowed to get a post made of something termites don't find appetizing.

I went to the section of the store that sold mailboxes, and found the perfect fit: a gleaming white wrought iron post with a steel mailbox, complete with the concrete base already attached. On the box it said:

MEETS ALL RULES AND REGULATIONS SET BY THE POSTMASTER GENERAL OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA POSTAL SERVICES"

Well, that should do it. No way the HOA could object to that!

I lugged it home (it was extremely heavy!) and dug a big hole. After FILLING the hole with bug killer, I installed the mailbox, adding more concrete at the base to make it firmly planted. I was certain that there would not be any trouble about the mailbox, unlike the harassment that my neighbor suffered over his adorable hand-carved PARROT Mailbox that he brought home from Barbados. The HOA President, a nasty little man, continually fined and cited Malcolm for his Parrot Mailbox, but Malcolm fought back, saying that his mailbox was part of his Afro-Caribbean Heritage, and he was NOT going to remove it. It was a constant battle, but Malcolm was a fighter, and would not comply. Everybody else liked the parrot mailbox, but did not have the energy to stand up to the HOA President. Alas, to my shame, I was one of those compliant cowards, and so made sure my mailbox was white, the right height from the ground, facing in the right direction, and met all Postal Regulations.

Imagine my horror when I got a letter from the HOA, stating that it was in the Covenant that the mailbox had to be installed on a 4" x 4" inch WOODEN post, and that my brand new, firmly planted, wrought iron post didn't meet the standard. I was furious. There was no way I could get my new mailbox out of the ground. I had worked so hard to get it right! (Also I felt guilty for not standing up for Malcolm).

Another trip to the hardware store produced a 4" x 4" PVC Pipe that fit perfectly over the wrought iron. Even close-up, it looked exactly like a wooden post. It was a cover-up, but a good one!

To this day, I have vowed NEVER to buy a house in a community governed by an HOA. When you sign your name on that Covenant, it supersedes everything, even the Postal Regulations and the CONSTITUTION itself.

I confessed my sin of cowardice to Malcolm, and he forgave me. He said, "No Problem, Mama. Everybody has their own battle, and this one is mine."

Just as we found a lot of "NEW" Testament Names in the "OLD" Testament, we will see that this look at the Names of God in the New Testament have a lot of references back to the Old Testament. Jesus didn't come to destroy the Law, but to fulfill it. The New Testament isn't a radical departure from the Old, like Malcolm's Parrot, nor is it a facsimile cover-up, like my PVC Post Cover. It's not even a set of Rules and Regulations that need to be adhered to in order to placate a capricious deity.

Today's Name for The Messiah is the "Second (or Last) Adam. Just as the first Adam brought sin and death into the world, so the Last Adam brings Redemption and Life. This amazing tie-in is expounded in Paul's Letter to the Corinthian Church, and is preserved for us to this day.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. (Mark 4:22)
