Among the categories of humor, we have Elephant Jokes, Ethnic Jokes, Blonde Jokes, Clean Jokes, Dirty Jokes, Dad Jokes, Sick Jokes, and, perhaps the most enduring category of them all, Lawyer Jokes. There are Lawyer Jokes in Shakespeare ("First, kill all the lawyers" from Henry VI Part 2), and even Jesus Christ has a diatribe against "Lawyers" pronouncing "Woe" upon them (Luke 11:52). Nevertheless, when navigating a difficult legal situation, being accused of a crime, or having had a crime committed against YOU, it is a good thing to have a competent and honest Lawyer. Finding the right lawyer for your needs can be difficult, especially if your adversary is not taking the high road. To have a string of mediocre lawyers contending with a vicious, aggressive, adversary can be devastating. Even if you are at fault in a situation, you need someone to be an advocate who will stand with you.
Now, imagine a lawyer, who stands before the Judge and says:
"Your Honor, my client, that miserable wretch over there, is incredibly guilty, and he knows it too. Since our state has Capital Punishment, I know that the Punishment for his crime is Death, by a particularly cruel and unusual manner. I propose that the Death Penalty be applied in this case, but to ME instead. Oh, and by the way, Your Honor, everybody else in this courtroom is guilty too. I will take the Death Penalty for you, Mr. Bailiff, and you folks on the Jury, and all you people in the audience too, if you accept it."
Now that's a crazy Lawyer Story that would NEVER, EVER happen. Or would it?
Jesus is called "Our Advocate" for a reason. When He atoned for our sins on the Cross, he wasn't saying we were sinless, He was saying we are Forgiven.
There is a big difference between "Innocent", "Not Guilty", and "Forgiven".
Let's face it, no matter how "good" we try to be, we all far short. Sometimes we mess up so bad that we need a REALLY GOOD Lawyer.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
