Nickname for the C-124 Globemaster II was “Old Shaky”. It was developed from the Douglas C-74 Globemaster. Douglas used the DC-4/C-54 as a basis for the C-74. The C-74 was 31 feet longer than the C-54.
The C-124 was powered by 4 3800 HP Pratt & Whitney R-4360 Wasp Major piston engines. It could carry 200 fully equipped troops on its double decks or 127 litter patients and their attendants.
