Ron Paul Blimp Flying Over Raleigh
Raleigh Chronicle ^ | 12/14/07 | Elliott West

Posted on 12/14/2007 12:00:40 PM PST by this is my name not yours

RALEIGH - No, you're not imagining things. That really is a Ron Paul for President blimp flying over the City of Raleigh today.

Organizers for the blimp took off this morning at 8am at the Airship Management Hangar in Elizabeth City, North Carolina and they are on their way to Chester, South Carolina where they will make their first stop.

This afternoon, the blimp will be flying over north Raleigh and will most likely be visible from Interstate 540 at some point, said Bryce Henderson, a media coordinator for the effort.

Organizers say the current schedule has it passing over Raleigh at 1 pm, Greensboro at 3pm, Charlotte at 5pm and landing in Chester, SC around 6pm. The blimp will spend the night in Chester and then head to Columbia, South Carolina in the morning.

Organizers say that the public can follow along on the inaugural trip as the blimp’s coordinates are relayed to www.ronpaulblimp.com via GPS and a live camera feed will also be inside the blimp’s cabin, broadcasting events in real time to www.justin.tv.

Organizers cautioned that the are assuming weather conditions are agreeable.

"Simply to take the blimp out of the hanger requires the wind speed to be under 15 knots," said orgnizers in a statement to the media.

Supporter for Ron Paul, who is running for President on the Republican ballot, raised the close to $300,000 necessary to place the advertisement on the blimp. Ron Paul has been in the news quite a bit lately as a candidate who has gained much momentum via the Internet. His supporters recently made over $4 million in campaign donations in one day at his website.

Trevor Lyman, who was one of the key figures behind the massive Ron Paul fundraising effort, also helped organize the blimp trip and will be on board.

I think most of his supporters are what makes this country great.

Yeah, a Paulie would think that.

What about the troops who defend your right to pat yourselves on the backs with remarks like that? Do they get any credit for making our country great in your book, or is it just the Paulies who are the abiding foundation of our great nation?

The Paul threads are full of haters who are full of themselves. I'm glad to have you on board. I'm a Paul supporter but I don't bash the other candidates. Fred Thompson or Duncan Hunter would be my 2nd choices. I know all the candidates are trying to sound more and more like Paul on everything except the war. I have to give it to Paul though, cuz he's been there along and he'll be there in the end. I think most of his supporters are what makes this country great. Their enthusiasm is to be admired.

I don't hate Ron Paul. Honestly, when I first listened to him, I LIKED him, but he's stepped out of the concept of "America First" to me. He doesn't HAVE our best interests at heart when it comes to the United States of America.

His immigration "policy" what he has of one, is severely lacking. He basically BACKS terrorism through "doing nothing at all" and "withdrawl". These things are enough for me to say "NO" to him.

I'm tired of people misrepresenting themselves in these forums. I've dealt with that sort of thing for years, and it just pisses me off to see someone pull a good old 'Template' out of the air when making a post.

I went back and read most of the originator's threads. Misrepresentation is LYING. Anyone with enough sense, COMMON SENSE someone mentioned a bit ago, who does read the person's other posts can see this clearly.

Honestly, I can't tell if you're trying to be funny with me about "glad to have me" on the board, but I've been here since this site started. I didn't register until 2000 because up until then, I was deeply involved in another site and it required about 90% of my free time. I've been around the world a few times, and I traveled with people like Ronald Reagan, George Bush, and so on. I can't STAND to see people sitting there anonymously behind their computers being stinkers, and lying, and misrepresenting themselves and their candidates. My real name is as it is posted and I have NO qualms about standing up for what I believe in. I wish more people would do that.

"10,000 Somali’s aren’t worth the blood of one American G.I., and neither are 10,000 Iraqi’s."

Thank you for exemplifying one of the myriad reasons why Ron Paul and his supporters are a blight upon the America I know and love.

Yeah, I was going to make a comment about what a shocker it was that Paul supporters have a shallow understanding of the history of our country and it's founding, but you beat me to it. Kudos.

Only WKRP could provide the coverage an event of this type deserves. Hopefully, Less Nessman is broadcasting these events in ‘real time’.

Yes... if you join the site claiming to be a “disgruntled Republican” (my words, not his, but definitely his sentiment on the post I made about of his OWN words) but claiming to walk away from supporting an HONEST Republican - and going to support a Libertarian, then it makes him a liar. Among other things.

I didn’t even bring up the 9/11 conspiracy BS. Mostly because it pisses me off. He should have been removed from office when he started that BS. So, now you know, “The Rest of the Story” to borrow a phrase from Mr. Harvey

When does it hover menacingly over (or close to) the UN headquarters in NYC, plus the Marriner S. Eccles Federal Reserve Board Building and the IRS building (on Constitution Ave) in DC?

The Ron Paul blimp should also make an ominous appearance behind Hillary Clinton while she is giving a speech outside.

One thing which makes the whole Ron Paul campaign, and independent side-shows like the blimp, so funny is that Paul is still obviously mystified about the internet. Anyway, he may not be my favorite candidate, but I am thoroughly enjoying his campaign.

I think Paul’s campaign is a worthless distraction. We have business to do - selecting a viable candidate who can beat Hillary. Paul is like a parasite on the Republican Party. Paul is sapping energy and money that can be used by stronger candidates to win. We have 3 - 5 strong possibilities for our candidate. Spending time or money on the lesser candidates is just hurting us.

No time to post it now, but check out their site, don't have the URL at hand. You can see the pictures and find the ad rates. This is a for profit thing you know, like advertising in the NYT or WP. Not RP's idea, but smart, selling "political advertising" rather than contributions. My recollection they're collecting around 10 or 12 grand a day, don't know what it costs to rent a blimp.

You can buy a minute, an hour, a week. Five grand gets you gondola time. Sorry I can't link it not, but I know you'll be able to add the financials to the thread.

Someone might want the $1,000,000 package which they list.

If this works it won't do Ron Paul any good, but it's a media money maker, including the guy who did this blimp thing, assuming as a for profit enterprise he's willing to accept ads from all comers.

Imagine, a blimp with RP Revolution on one side, RP sucks on the other.

Money maker

In a conversation the other day about Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, I remembered an old quote, Krieg ohne Hass, War without Hate. We should definitely strive for this among Republicans, as any one of is is trying to damage the guy we'll eventually all be behind for President against the Democrats.

I even try to do this with the Democrats. Except Hillary. I hate the bitch. From the Drake & Josh show my kids were watching the other day, "Hate is such a strong ... accurate term."
