Ron Paul Blimp Flying Over Raleigh
Raleigh Chronicle ^ | 12/14/07 | Elliott West

Posted on 12/14/2007 12:00:40 PM PST by this is my name not yours

RALEIGH - No, you're not imagining things. That really is a Ron Paul for President blimp flying over the City of Raleigh today.

Organizers for the blimp took off this morning at 8am at the Airship Management Hangar in Elizabeth City, North Carolina and they are on their way to Chester, South Carolina where they will make their first stop.

This afternoon, the blimp will be flying over north Raleigh and will most likely be visible from Interstate 540 at some point, said Bryce Henderson, a media coordinator for the effort.

Organizers say the current schedule has it passing over Raleigh at 1 pm, Greensboro at 3pm, Charlotte at 5pm and landing in Chester, SC around 6pm. The blimp will spend the night in Chester and then head to Columbia, South Carolina in the morning.

Organizers say that the public can follow along on the inaugural trip as the blimp’s coordinates are relayed to www.ronpaulblimp.com via GPS and a live camera feed will also be inside the blimp’s cabin, broadcasting events in real time to www.justin.tv.

Organizers cautioned that the are assuming weather conditions are agreeable.

"Simply to take the blimp out of the hanger requires the wind speed to be under 15 knots," said orgnizers in a statement to the media.

Supporter for Ron Paul, who is running for President on the Republican ballot, raised the close to $300,000 necessary to place the advertisement on the blimp. Ron Paul has been in the news quite a bit lately as a candidate who has gained much momentum via the Internet. His supporters recently made over $4 million in campaign donations in one day at his website.

Trevor Lyman, who was one of the key figures behind the massive Ron Paul fundraising effort, also helped organize the blimp trip and will be on board.

I dunno about the OP, but I supported Ron Paul earlier in the year before moving to Tancredo (for idealogical reasons, largely Paul’s comments on Islamofascism), and am now shifting to Thompson (for pragmatic reasons). Honestly, I still favor Ron Paul over Huckabee and Giuliani. If one’s primary issue is tipping the federalist balance more towards the states (ie shrinking the federal government), then it isn’t unfathomable to have some folks who like both Ron Paul and Fred Thompson.

Foreign nations invervened on our behalf.

Benjamin Franklin was more important to us gaining our freedom than most people think. He spent years schmoozing in the French court, gaining the respect of the upper class (he became immensely popular), so that he could go to the king with some backing and ask him to support our revolution. The actions of the French navy and army were critical to our victory at Yorktown.

People who want to be free need help to succeed.

I listened to them preach about things like "it should be ok to smoke pot in your own home"

What's so objectionable about that?

Yeah, maybe we can have a Sidebar Mod Revolution and get our own dang blimp.

And then post a thread about it.

In Breaking News, of course. ;-)

It’s Liberty Political Advertising. If you google that, you get several links. All take you to:

http://www.ronpaulblimp.com/

Says they’re ‘making some changes’ and ‘sponsorships will again be available soon’.

I suspect the Federal Election Folks will be all over them soon.

It's prolly going to have to wait until next week. I've had a LONG day. Woke up at 4AM with a killer toothache, had my first tooth extraction ever and a heck of a day at work. Daddy's heading out to a well-deserved Friday Happy Hour, and then heading down to DC for a few-day excursion. I'll be meeting Bobby Jindal if he's in town next week. Exciting!

Hey, that's the one perk of being a Sidebar Mod. We can throw nonsense into Breaking News and make sure it stays there.

The big government republicans only rebuttal is often personel attacks, insults etc... so they attack the messanger, because they cannot touch the message of liberty.

Yeah, this is a disgusting thread. People obviously can't support the candidate of their choice; nah, they're supposed to support whoever the media/beltway tells them to.

Funny, but I don't see any blimps for the other candidates, no grassroots support, no money bombs...just the usual Republican drones who do what the party elites tell them to do.

I'll say one thing. Ron Paul has exposed a lot of hypocrites and pseudo-conservatives.

“Exactly. America has not been stabbing its fighting forces in the back nearly enough.”

I wonder, then, why the armed forces give so much money to Ron Paul. Got a tin foil hat explanation for that?

“The most important issue in this campaign is defending this nation from the Islamofascists.”

Maybe to you, but I think most people are past that and are now more interested in the economy.

Never mind, Rick.

I did not realize I was speaking with someone who does not listen to others and their viewpoints, but rather someone who prefers to paint with a broad brush and lacks the spirit of compromise, compassion and understanding.

You can spare me the history lesson too, you know nothing about myself or my works

Just so you know, that hole in the sign is to allow access to a fitting of some sort on the hull... It’s not a flaw in the banner.
