How about we give two guys Remington 700s, give them the high ground and tell them “we you see them , drop them in their tracks”. Might send a message to the next wacknut that wants to bring a gun on base.
Years ago in Minot ND some blacks took over the chow hall in some sort of protest. The first act of command was to send all the First Sergeants to the barracks surrounding the chow hall. Although our personal firearms are supposed to be stored in the Armory, that was routinely ignored and the command was worried that their soldiers would solve their problem our way.
They transferred all those Black protesters off base because they feared for their safety.
We had to suffer through weeks of diversity training.
All they needed to do was transfer out the problems.
Minot AFB ND was probably the world’s third largest nuclear weapon power, at the time. We dealt with Nukes on a daily basis.
This was 1974-75.
I have a nephew who is a sergeant Major in the army today.
it is no different than it was then. Problems get transferred out. People doing the work, stay.
Our military can’t win in a stone age hellhole like Afghanistan so if this is ‘news’ about some armed person it means they fear ‘the lone white supremacist’... and with their billions and trillions in weapons - they’re hiding under their desks.
It would be funny if it wasn’t so pathetic.

There are merely times where certain groups in the West have been isolated because of buffer nations, i.e. not being the bullseye.
But, for the time being, because it’s politically expedient, and plays into what are the real prejudicial cliché’s, we’ll make bubba with a pickup truck and shotgun rack out as the bad guy. Yes, we will even marginalize —EXACTLY— those people this nation calls up to fight its wars when things do go bad, because if you look at the demographics of most of these combat units (not the staged DoD official pictures), it’s not urban minority homosexual women with an Indian hair due and Hispanic surname doing the fighting.
It’s predominantly rural boys from states where they grow corn or have cattle, that do the bleeding for this country and those are the types we’ll call upon again, after of course we marginalize them (white/male privilege, right wing extremists...) today.
I’ll bet they’re loading up their 6 shooters and learning how to say “dance, butt boy, DANCE!” in their best Yosemite Sam voices.

Imagine this mentality on D-Day. Then imagine what General George Patton’s order would be.
I would have gone to my duty station. There was an M2 carbine and four loaded 30 round mags held in place by spring clips. No locks. Just pull it out of the spring clips, load, and you’re ready. The top round in each mag was tinted red for quick ID of a full mag. This was right beside my desk. I was the designated shooter. Every office along that corridor had the same setup. This was on a highly secured NCC installation 57 years ago. I would regularly take my NM M14 and ammo to my duty station if I was going to match practice that day.
We were given some very comprehensive training on what to do should the need arise. It was not the kind of place you went wondering around. I’ve seen several officers spead-eagled awaiting the arrival of a security team. That site is now closed. Somehow I don’t think the military is like that today.
I was on guard duty one night when an officer tried to grab my rifle through a gate. Butt-stroked his hand and broke his wrist. He was one of the sec-eval weenies. I would have gone for his chin but the fence was in the way. My reward? Never had to pull extra duty again. Top laughed his ass off.
Can’t they call some soldiers or something?
Likely not, other than installation/base security and DOD police.
US Military personnel living in barrack/non-family quarters are in a stalag environment as far possession of weapons goes.
Married living in family quarters are a big different depending on service and rank.
In my military mind, the guidance ought to include: Prepare to fight, be a good LP/OP, secure and shelter, not hide and cower first, prepare to fight last....
