Bill Maher Nails What's at the Heart of the Left's Outrage Over Harrison Butker's Address

Hell froze over when Bill Maher defended the likes of Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker on his show Friday. The NFL player recently delivered a controversial commencement address at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, which sent the Left into meltdown mode. On one hand, there were some parts that many could view as anachronistic about the speech. Then again, Butker is a devout Catholic who delivered an address that aligned with those values. You can disagree without going crazy. And if Maher, an outspoken atheist and critic of organized religion, can shrug this off, so can everyone else.

The coverage reached epic levels of idiocy as news outlets dragged alums from 2019 to weigh in. CNN, former Chiefs cheerleaders, and NFL Network media personalities all offered their takes on the speech. Rich Eisen and his wife, Suzy Kolber, disagreed with the address but did so correctly. They voiced how they disagreed with his stances but added that some women choose to stay home with the kids, and that’s okay, too. We’re not a monolithic society when it comes to families.

Reading excerpts from the address, where Maher highlighted how the outrage reinforces Americans’ issues with the Left:

I don’t see what the big crime is. I don’t. And I think this is part of the problem people have with the left is that lots of people in this country are like this. Like he’s saying, some of you may go on to lead successful careers, but a lot of you are excited about this other way that people, everybody, used to be. And now, can’t that just be a choice, too?

Maher hit the nail on the head regarding why liberal America feels the way they do about this minor college commencement incident: liberals think the only acceptable way of being a good person is to get an advanced degree from those “asshole factories” like Harvard.

Whopping Goldberg said a similar thing. People should be allowed to preach their religious beliefs.

“Can’t that just be a choice, too?”

No. Absolutely Not if they can help it. Bill should be smart enough to see where this is going.

I’ve found it interesting, I’ve known some reasonably intelligent people over the years who were atheist. It’s even mind if trendy, when people are young from the standpoint of rebellion against parents. But overall thoughtful atheists seemed to be OK generally, at least outwardly.

Now what we are seeing today is more along the lines of what I would call anti-theists. These are people that actively hate God. And they are willing to do anything to show that.

You can usually explain or get an atheist to acknowledge that living in a society with a strong Judao-Christian heritage with our rule of law, property rights, presumption of innocence for the accused, etc etc, all sorts of things we take for granted, this is a pretty good gig.

I think maybe Bill is finally figuring out, that without the civilizing influence of Christianity then society breaks down. “If You Don’t Believe In Something, You’ll Fall For Anything”.

I see a lot of broken people out there. That will never get fixed.

Maher, an outspoken atheist and critic of organized religion,

Why have so many Jews rejected religion and become atheists?

They have a great heritage; it's not perfect, but it is something to build on.

Yet many modern Jews forsake their fathers' faith traditions and look down on Christianity as totally beneath them.

I wonder if he may have been influenced by Richard Dawkins’ recent comments about the upside of living in a Christian culture.

Until about the 1970s it was common for a man to be the breadwinner buying a house and car and providing for his family.
But the women’s liberation movement forced employers to accept women but the employers paid women less than men. Thus, with higher prices and stagnant wages a man could not afford to pay for a house, car and supporting a family without getting his wife to work outside the home full time, too. The two income family was the new normal. And few women have top, fulfilling professional careers. Most have regular jobs that don’t pay a lot and are boring. Not a way to “find themselves”—just need money.

A female comedian said “A lot of us women every day take a minute to hate that first woman who said let’s try going out to get a job to get out of the house.”

When the sneaky slogan by the unions and Dems “working families” was propagandized everywhere, Rush Limbaugh quipped: “Yes, thanks to the lower wages the whole family including the kids have to work to have what one breadwinner used to provide. Working families.”

There used to be a great talk show radio host on 1040 WHO radio for many years out of Des Moines, Jan Mikkelson who talked about that. 0900-1100 every day, right before El Rushbo.

One of the things he would do, was get callers to explore the reasons why they believe what they believe. “Everybody knows Slavery was Wrong” right? Well why? Why is it wrong?

Where did you get that idea? Where did it come from? It is theoretically possible for an atheist society to be just, or equitable or whatever you want to call it - but upon what basis do they derive their ethics? Well it just so happens, it starts to look a whole lot like a good Christian culture.

This notion of “All Cultures Are Equal” that the universities started pushing was one of the more wicked and odious worms to come down the pike. “We wouldn’t want to be Ethnocentric”. Today the criticism has morphed into “White Supremacy” more pseudo-intellectual twaddle. But all this cultural rot has started to pay dividends and is starting to pick up steam.

What I could never figure out, is why anybody would want to do this. Don’t they have kids, don’t they have grandchildren?

Do they themselves expect they can somehow keep the mob from turning on them? Never made any sense, unless they have a death wish.

American “liberals” are totalitarian. They haven’t been actual liberals in many, many decades. I never refer to them as liberals. I call them leftists or left-wing extremists.

My grandfather was an atheist until the day he died. On that day he changed his mind. He was 100.

“ Whopping Goldberg said a similar thing. People should be allowed to preach their religious beliefs “

People are allowed to preach their religious beliefs.

They just have to put up with and or ignore the backlash from closed minded group thinkers

The way Trump does.

American “liberals” are totalitarian.

They're actually bolsheviks.

Not every Democrat is a "liberal". But every "liberal" is a bolshevik.

They want to remake America into an one party state.

Atheists don’t not believe in God. They simply wish that God didn’t exist. Usually because it means they would have to change the way they’re living in some way, and they really don’t want to. They have another god, but they either don’t realize it or they don’t want to admit it.

“ Whopping Goldberg said a similar thing. People should be allowed to preach their religious beliefs.”

She believes she is at the level of the founding fathers. Who is she to say what we should be allowed to do above and beyond the constitution

We have freedom of speech
