A few more lessons like that and who knows what can be accomplished.
Looking at the statement in context...
The temporary reopening of 245(i) is not a new law, nor is it an amnesty. Like many immigration organizations, we are still fighting for a general amnesty for all immigrants. In the meantime, if you do not have another way to gain legal status--such as through marriage or sponsorship by an employer or an immediate relative--245(i) cannot help you.
I believe this is a reference to the fact that the 245(i) extension is a targeted, not a general Amnesty for Illegals.
So you tell me... how would you teach them?
Not all pardons are unconditional.
Letting Illegals stay = Amnesty for those Illegals.
The only string that matters is the one that yanks Illegals back to their country, and it's missing.
I call President Bush three times a week urging him to veto CFR and I fax every one of them when I feel strongly.
I think you have valid points and I not only think its your right to put them forward, I urge you to do so. The only way to move the country right is to vote for the most conservative candidate with a chance of winning.
And the way to get the most conservative candidate in the general election is to help him win the primary.
Otherwise, you're the British Colonel building the Bridge Over the River Kwai.
I could see a very very carefully controlled guest worker program that would prevent people from moving into areas of very high unemployment as is currently being done. Maybe if there was a reasonable unemployment rate of something like 2%, and real job needs that could be filled with guest workers who were safely transported to and from their job sites --and back to Mexico after a set period of time. Something like Americans do going to Saudi Arabia to work.
I see first hand the effects of massive uncontrolled immigration, I see (mostly) Hispanic kids desperate to get a job ---these are second or third generation American kids who would gladly work but are being denied the opportunity because illegals (and legals) are holding many of the jobs.
Many people are...nothing wrong with that.
What bothers some is that it's a different single issue than theirs.
Indeed. And don't let it bother you. Immigration was a non-issue for me but now that I see our President arrogantly changing immigration policy that is against the will of the US people, it angers the hell out of me and I WILL be a single-issue voter this time.
If OwlGore says he will put a moratorium on immigration and starts deporting illegals, he has my vote. If not, I'll vote for someone else...even a write-in.
Yes, 2004 will be a single issue with me---and the candidate that runs on an anti-illegal immigration platform will have my vote sewn up.
Tom Tancredo anyone?
OK, since you're already in the bag, will any GOP leaders care why?
OK, since you're already in the bag, will any GOP leaders care why? Will your defection against the GOP help the cause of conservatism?
Let me say, if you DON'T vote for Bush in 2004, then you're voting for the DIMocRAT candidate.
You KNOW that........I know you KNOW that, too!
Similar statements were made only recently about the intractability of international terrorism. We're paying a heavy price for believing that defeatism for as long as we did.
Amnesty will be the utter Surrender of our borders.
The people responsible are all around us. We know them well. If those who are illegal remain illegal, i.e., no amnesty, it will cost us big time and it will be painful for generations. The last thing we need in this country is (a/another) subculture.
If we pretend the Illegals are desirable by granting them an Amnesty as a reward for their lawlessness, we will be growing the subculture.
Any effort to rectify this problem has to leave out anyone already here and completely focus on stopping future illegal immigration...
No deal... This was the broken promise of the Amnesty of '86. There must be substantial deportations from the interior.
If Bush throws away votes by ignoring the will of 70% of the American People on an issue that's wrong on principle, a Democrat President will be his own fault.
He should know that, and we should tell him.
He works for us.
