I just got back from Ukraine, where I was visiting some friends. Everything we have heard about what’s happening in Ukraine is a lie. The reality is darker, bleaker, and unequivocally hopeless. There is no such thing as Ukraine "winning" this war. - By their estimates, they have lost over one million of their sons, fathers and husbands; an entire generation is gone. - Even in the Southwest, where the anti-Russian sentiment is long-standing, citizens are reluctant or straight-up scared to publicly criticize Zelensky; they will go to jail. - In every village and town, the streets, shops, and restaurants...

After the failure of Ukraine’s 2023 counteroffensive, Kyiv finds itself at a major crossroads and with no easy options. The demand late last year by the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, for the mobilisation of an additional 500,000 troops over the next few months signals both resolve and desperation. It will likely make Ukrainian domestic politics more fractious but it could also buy Zelensky time to reconsider his own endgame and how to get there. Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, Ukraine’s armed forces have had a strength of around a million soldiers, with continuous regular mobilisation...

A senior Ukrainian Defence Ministry official has been detained over allegations he embezzled 1.5 billion Ukrainian hryvnia ($40 million) relating to an artillery shells contract, according to the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU). The SBU says the official signed an agreement with a special export company to purchase a wholesale batch of artillery shells in December last year. However, a more favourable contract for the supply was later signed with the same manufacturer – one that did not involve intermediaries. According to the SBU, the defense official extended the original – more expensive - contract and funds totalling 1.5 billion Ukrainian...

Vadym Prystaiko, the former Ukrainian ambassador to the UK, has claimed that the UK is one of the countries that, in the event of a "catastrophic development of the war" in Ukraine, could send its armed forces there.Source: Prystaiko in an interview with Radio Svoboda, as reported by European PravdaDetails: Prystaiko commented on one of the arguments that Ukraine uses to justify the need for help - "if you don't help Ukraine now, sooner or later, your children will fight with Russia"."What President Zelenskyy is saying now is that if we run out of forces, soldiers, or weapons that you...

“If you want to live, dig.”The words, often spoken by Ukrainian troops, are universal advice for trench warfare in general, but especially for both sides in Russia’s war against Ukraine.Normally expressed as advice to the individual soldier, the maxim now applies to the country as a whole.Twenty-one months into the full-scale war, World War I-style tactics, with the high-tech edge brought by drones and other innovations, continue to dominate.Russia and Ukraine are diving head-long into a winter campaign looking to be no less brutal than the last, and it is Russian forces that have taken the initiative on a wide...

Hungary appeared on a collision course on Wednesday with fellow European Union members over Ukraine's bid to join the wealthy bloc, a dispute that could hold up Kyiv's membership drive and was set to overshadow an EU summit. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban reaffirmed his opposition to offering neighbouring Ukraine fast-track accession at this week's summit, saying to parliament this would not serve the interests of Hungary or the 27-member EU. With both sides digging in their heels, Ukraine's hopes of securing much-needed financial and military assistance to fight Russian invasion forces hung in the balance. "Our stance is clear....

A Russian cannibal in a Satanic cult that slaughtered four teenagers — beheading and partially eating two of them — has been pardoned by President Vladimir Putin after fighting against Ukraine in a notorious unit of convicts. Nikolai Ogolobyak, 33, was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2010 for murder and desecrating corpses over a series of horrifying ritualistic murders that rocked the Yaroslavl region — where the then-teenager was known as “Count.” Ogolobyak and other Satan worshippers, including one nicknamed “Hitler,” beheaded two of their four victims — then cut out their hearts and tongues which they then...

Secretary Janet Yellen @SecYellen Providing aid to Ukraine is vital to protecting our national security interests. We can’t allow Ukraine to lose a battle on the home front because it lacks enough money to keep schoolteachers and first responders on the job when it's fighting valiantly on the battlefield.

Ukrainian men are trying in every possible way to escape the war, which has now lasted twenty month. Authorities are increasingly struggling to recruit for the army, which is estimated to have around 500,000 men and women under arms, including reserves. Russia has about three times as many military personnel. The clearest sign that calling up soldiers is not going well came in August. President Zelensky dismissed all the heads of the regional mobilization offices in one fell swoop because they accepted large-scale bribes... There are also men who go into hiding. News channel Al Jazeera tracked one down. In...

Since Russia invaded Ukraine for the second time in eight years, Russian troops have ravaged Ukraine’s cities, raped its women, and stolen its children. Russian missiles and Iranian drones strike Ukrainian cities daily, often hitting civilian targets. Russia is the aggressor. Ukraine is the victim. For Americans who believe in respect for national borders, the primacy of national sovereignty, and the right to self-defense, support for Ukraine is natural. Ukrainians are not asking for, nor do they want, US troops to help them fight Russia. All they ask for is the resources required to give them a fighting chance. Meanwhile,...

The recent election of Mike Johnson as speaker of the House has struck terror in the heart of the uniparty, with neoconservatives and Democrats fearing that their reckless Ukraine spending may finally be put to an end.President Biden is currently exploiting the conflict in Israel and Palestine to secure more funding for Ukraine in a joint package for Israel and Ukraine aid. However, only a small portion of the $100 billion the president is requesting would go to Israel, with the majority — $61.4 billion — going to Ukraine. With Johnson now speaker and leading the House, Biden’s Ukraine funding request...

There was a poignant moment at the end of President Biden’s Oval Office address about the need for American aid to Ukraine and Israel. Biden shifted slightly in his chair, pointed with a finger for emphasis, and spoke about the historic role of America as the “essential nation” and the “beacon to the world.” Biden, who had just returned from Israel, believes that to the marrow of his bones. What made the moment poignant was a sense that he was pleading with the American people to believe it, too. Biden rhetorically asked, “Why does this matter to America?” and answered...

The most recent edition of the US Army War College’s academic journal includes a highly disturbing essay on what lessons the US military should take away from the continuing war in Ukraine. By far the most concerning and most relevant section for the average American citizen is a subsection entitled “Casualties, Replacements, and Reconstitutions” which, to cut right to the chase, directly states, “Large-scale combat operations troop requirements may well require a reconceptualization of the 1970s and 1980s volunteer force and a move toward partial conscription.”An Industrial War of Attrition Would Require Vast Numbers of TroopsThe context for this supposed...

COTTON: BIDEN SUPPLEMENTAL SPENDING PROPOSAL IS DEAD ON ARRIVAL FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Caroline Tabler or James Arnold (202) 224-2353 October 20, 2023 Cotton: Biden Supplemental Spending Proposal is Dead on Arrival Washington, D.C. — Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) released the following statement after President Biden released his proposed supplemental spending bill: “President Biden’s slush fund proposal is dead on arrival, just like his budgets. We will not spend, for example, $3.5 billion to address the ‘potential needs of Gazans,’ essentially functioning as a resupply line for Hamas terrorists. ****“We will also not spend $11.8 billion to fund the Ukrainian...

WASHINGTON — President Biden’s staff confirmed Friday that he is asking Congress for much greater aid to Ukraine by hitching it to a smaller and more popular spending request for Israel after Hamas terrorists slaughtered 1,400 people in a surprise attack this month. Biden on Thursday night used his second primetime Oval Office address since taking office to urge passage of the combined package, which the White House confirmed Friday morning would be $14.3 billion for Israel — just a quarter of the $61.4 billion he’s seeking for Ukraine. Another $30.1 billion would go to various other projects, bringing the...

Exploiting Israel to score a political victory.Biden’s speech on the brutal Hamas atrocities was a good speech, not in that he delivered it well or especially convincingly (let’s not even rehash the invented Golda Meir story) but it appeared to have been written by someone who cared enough to inject it with moral outrage and certainty. It would have been a better speech for someone else. But rhetoric is relatively cheap in politics. More significant than the moral outrage are the actual policy statements. As many noted, there’s no mention of Iran. That’s not surprising as the administration’s position is not...
