Canadian national Robert Lloyd Schellenberg, was convicted of trying to smuggle about 222kg of methamphetamine from China to Australia. He had been initially sentenced, two months ago, to 15 years in jail. He appealed the sentence at the Liaoning High People’s Court, which concluded that the initial sentence was too light. A retrial in a lower court has (now) put him on death row.

Who cares? China has been shooting drug smugglers when they catch them for a while.
The obvious riposte is for Canada to expedite the extradition of Huawei’s Meng Wanzhou to the US, where she can spend the next few years preparing for trial while being held in a maximum security prison without bail. While we can’t execute her for purely economic crimes, we could give her a life sentence in a Supermax facility, where she can contemplate the meaning of life or learn conversational Swahili.
If he smuggled this stuff he deserves death!
Meth is very cheap in China, apparently, But very expensive in Australia. Conservatively this guy was moving 55 million dollars in meth.

China would be wise to avoid advice from Canada and USA about drugs. Our tolerance has allowed drugs to ravage our countries. A couple of generations, at least, are addicted to drugs and looks to be getting worse every day.

If the Chinese really want to mess with this guy’s mind, they can offer to bring in a 3rd party arbitrator of significant stature, well known to both the Aussies and the Chinese gov’t.
Then tell Schellenberg a few days later:
The arbitrator is Rodrigo Duterte.
