Cadillac has reportedly opted to cancel any plans to continue producing its ELR plug-in hybrid coupe after watching the luxury hybrid’s sales fall last year.
According to Automotive News, Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen confirmed last week that the General Motors GM -2.46% division does not plan a follow-up to the first generation of ELRs that launched at the end of 2013. The trade publication noted that ELR sales dropped 22% last year to only 1,024 vehicles, as dealers complained about the car’s high price tag of nearly $76,000 (with shipping).

Speaking of high end plug in hybrids, I haven’t heard much about Chevy’s lower end Volt in quite a while. Wondering what’s going on with it? Any current knowledge?
Go figure. Folks who spend all that money for a Cadillac don’t want to plug their car in every night.

Volt sold about 15,000 units in 2015. The redesigned 2016 model is selling better than the last gen model.
Like the ELR, it’s pretty certain GM takes a loss on every one sold.

I need some updated wheels, been looking at the GMC Canyon, but the Duramax diesel is unavailabe in Alaska for now.
Would it not be worth the drive to Seattle for a Duramax? Are the Dodge or Ford Diesels also not available up there?
That was without a doubt the best commercial for American ingenuity.
It could but i get better local finance rates here in Alaska.
I might be flying down to Seattle soon anyway, will check the online dealers inventory. Maybe its not the issue i think it is.

Until nuclear power is embraced in this country, and especially until fusion is commercialized, the only reason to ever build an electric vehicle is for specialized applications like indoor or quiet-zone operation (e.g., forklifts and golf carts).
Heard that Toyota no longer makes its plug-in Prius.

For real? If I had that kind of money for a car, it would not be spent on a plug-in toy. Silly me.

If fuel prices stay low, the industry is gonna be in a real dilemma. They are investing tons of capital to design and develop vehicles to meet the (very high) govt mandated fuel economy levels.
And people are wanting to buy pickups and SUVs.
So do we end up with Mild-Hybrid / Aluminum / Carbon-Fiber pickups that no one can work on just to Satisfy Lear-Deeders unobtainium mandates that are making a freakin' pickup as sophisticated as a Formula one racer?
It is beyond Kelly Johnson's " 80% rule " ( look it up ) and we are so far into the curve of not being cost effective it isn't even funny....
