How will police arrest those who don’t want to be arrested?

If the police come to arrest you, and you don’t want to be arrested, what are the police to do?

Middle class people with high-future time orientation won’t refuse to cooperate because they know that if they don’t, there will be even worse legal consequences in the future. But the criminal element has very low future-time orientation and they don’t think that way.

Traditionally, the police would beat up people who didn’t cooperate with the arrest, and if the arrestee was too good at defending himself from getting beaten up, then they’d shoot him. This was very effective in getting compliance when they needed to arrest people, because it was well known there would be immediate consequences for not cooperating.

However, the traditional method came to be seen as violating people’s “rights,” so the police moved into more scientific methods of constraining non-cooperating arrestees without, theoretically, harming them. Thus the various wrestling maneuvers that the police now use on arrestees. (Also, I do believe that because these wrestling maneuvers are seen as being non-harmful and constitutionally approved, police have become too quick to turn to them instead of giving the arrestee an opportunity to cooperate and be arrested with dignity. [Whereas, traditionally, beating people up was seen as sometimes necessary but not something to be done routinely.] So there is a little bit of legitimacy to those who are critical of the police.)

But what happens when the police aren’t allowed to use any sort of force at all to arrest people? The answer is that a large percentage of arrestees will just refuse to be arrested, and chaos will ensue.

Arresting people is so very racist.

This assumption that any police will be left around is flawed.

Cops escalate simple traffic stops into arrests for violations which are uncalled for.

They won’t. All crime will be dealt with by trial by combat. If you evade the cop, you’re innocent.

The overwhelming majority of holds used in arresting people who do not want to be arrested are neck holds taught in police departments because neck holds are the primary hold to make perps immobile and lessen the threat of perps hurting cops with fists and arms, particularly if they are bigger perps. If police departments prohibit neck holds, expect more close range lethal shootings by police protecting themselves. Tasers are useless at close range.

First let me say I do not see this DEFUND the police going on much past the next election for these clowns.

Second, if by chance I am wrong, and they end up with a city without police I will predict that the citizens will form their own police (called vigilante committees) which will enforce their laws without regard of any Constitutional niceties.

They could use take his picture then use facial recognition tech to Id the guy - let him go and then pick him up at leisure at his house.

Of course Amazon, IBM and Microsoft have banned the use of their facial recognition tech by the police.

They can disrobe. Nothing to grab. Freepers can then establish guilt.

Strongly worded letters will be sent to force them to comply - they may even print names and addresses in public places!

Shoot them. No need to arrest.

That was apparently the solution, in the back of a black man running away from cops, last night in Atlanta. Mostly on video as well.

When unarmed, fleeing, I don't see that working out well for the police or the community. Or for anyone.

When armed, in all seriousness we need to discuss level and immediacy of the threat.

>>Cops escalate simple traffic stops into arrests for violations which are uncalled for.<<

And it’s not just traffic stops. There is a problem in this nation in that our government has created too many laws, rules and regulations that result in and often require police to make arrests.

As a small government conservative I’ll all for eliminating many of these laws. Police should really only be involved when it is a violent or dangerous incident.

However, we have to figure out how to handle things like speeding infractions and numerous other minor infractions. I don’t have the answer but it seems to be a problem.

Is there another video? The one I saw shows the black guy running off with the cop’s taser, not unarmed, and then the shooting is off camera, but when it pans, the crook is lying face down. The video I saw, doesn’t show him getting shot in the back.

Most of the time it is the driver that causes the escalation.

Officer let me see your DL driver No I don’t have to.

Officer choices

1. ok have nice day go on your way

2. No I really need your DL

Driver no. ok go on your way

Officer if you do not show me your DL I will have to issue you a citation for no DL also.

Then I will have to take you in and you will have to post bond and have your finger prints and picture taken so I can ID you latter.

OK who is causing the escalation the officer or the driver.

Now tell me what an officer should do for a so called simple traffic stop when the driver refuses.

1. just let them go. (oh by the way you just let a murderer go with the body in the trunk)

2. Standby the side of the road for hours trying to convince them.

3. or use the legal means afforded you by the government to get compliance.

Sorry letting people go for minor offenses because they do not want to cooperate just leads to every body saying no.

The system for most part works.

Actually not true. I am an avid shooter, averaging over 200 rounds per day, seven days a week. When I called the police for multiple criminal intruders on my property, that was the slowest and most difficult option available to solve the problem. Once the police are no longer an effective option, millions of armed Americans will address such issues on our own: The answer is that a large percentage of decent people will just skip calling the police, and order will ensue.

You need to read-up on ‘restorative justice’. Social workers will sit down with those who do harm. They will educate them on why doing harm isn’t right. They will solicit them to take action to restore what damage they have done. I’m sure it will work well.
