Rand Paul Calls for a Formal Declaration of War Against ISIS

Senator Rand Paul is calling for a declaration of war against the Islamic State, a move that promises to shake up the debate over the military campaign in Iraq and Syria as President Obama prepares to ask Congress to grant him formal authority to use force.

Mr. Paul, a likely presidential candidate who has emerged as one of the Republican Party’s most cautious voices on military intervention, offered a very circumscribed definition of war in his proposal, which he outlined in an interview on Saturday. He would, for instance, limit the duration of military action to one year and significantly restrict the use of ground forces.

Rand is talking more like a president every day. Limiting the size and scope of a war so the enemy knows what's coming.

If I were running for president, my statement would be along the lines of....

“We’re going to rain hell upon all terrorists and those who aid them until they no longer exist. To our paid allies, you are either all in with us, against us or out but if you get in our way you will get run over. Terrorism knows no borders and we will take our war against them wherever they may be.”

Rand is too libertarian for me as far as foreign policy but I’ll gladly vote for him. I am sure he would severely limit the poisonous EPA.

Rand really does not understand the Islamic threat to Western Civilization. Libertarians are idiots when it comes to understanding Islam

Well, Bush refrained from saying Islam, replacing it with “terror”. Although its communistic and neo-national-socialistic allies do have to be dealt with.

usually I would agree.

But with Obama as president... HELL NO!

We don’t need to give Obama ONE IOTA of extra power!

This should have been done against Al Qaeda too. Declare war, destroy enemy, impose our will, and done.

For a split second, I read that headline as Declaration of War against IRS...

Be still my beating heart.

The root cause is Islam. Islam has declared war against everybody on the planet.
When a nation declares war, it's citizens are not immune, they're enablers.
This is why ALL of Islam are responsible and a declaration of War against Islam
is necessary just as it was in the past. Islam must be eradicated. Again.

Rand Paul Calls for a Formal Declaration of War Against ISIS

Will we never have a politician step up and be honest and name our enemy?
Declaring war on ISIS would be comparable to in WW2 the US declaring war on the 5th Panzer Regiment of the Germany Army.
Its is ISLAM. Regardless of ISIS Al-queda, Hamas, Iran Syria, etc.
They all want the same thing. Islam control of the World...

There should be a formal declaration of War but in today’s world we don’t declare war, we don’t fight war like war, and we lose wars by choice not for lack of means to win them. This is the reason I don’t support sending our men and women as a major force into the middle east. Its clear they will not be let fight the war to minimize their causalities and absolutely do whatever it takes to win. Also when its done they will receive no gratitude and we will have spent lives and money for nothing. We should build up our drone forces and move to a model of attack that uses minimal engagement with special forces leveraging high tech weaponry. The idea that we must have massive troops on the ground to inflict and disrupt the enemy is an antiquated idea and one that can’t work any more politically and in reality hasn’t worked in any lasting way since WWII.

We shouldn’t be using massive ground troops unless we are going to take and hold ground and reap benefits beyond preventing the occasional terrorist attack or now beheading. Sure it makes me angry that ISIS is advancing and that people are getting heads chopped but I don’t see how exactly sending our men and women to die in the thousands over a dozen people getting head chopped makes any sense at all especially given that the military will have its hands tied by the political micromanagement under the guise of a kinder gentler war.
