Star's birth glimpsed 'in real time'
BBC ^ | 3 April 2015 | BBC

Astronomers have witnessed a key stage in the birth of a very heavy star, using two radio telescope views of the process taken 18 years apart.

The young star is 4,200 light-years from Earth and appears to be surrounded by a doughnut-shaped cloud of dust.

Would someone please help me out here? I’m just a poor ignorant sodbuster. How do they “see” ANYTHING with a radio telescope? In living color, yet?! And if all this can be “seen” by that method, why did we have to mortgage the farm to put the Hubble telescope up there? Why do I smell smoke? And where’s that wind coming from that seems to be aimed at my butt?!

One of the major findings that has already emerged from studying W75N(B)-VLA2 relates to earlier work led by JIVE scientists, who in 2009 traced the large-scale magnetic field in that region of space and reported that the field surrounding the young star was neatly aligned with it.

I'm sorry but I don't speak JIVE

The same way a doctor 'sees' a broken bone inside with X-Rays.

It actually works. Just because it's not directly detectable by our senses doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

I thank God for the gift of science that He has given us. It makes getting treatment for injuries much less barbaric.

The “color” comes from translating different radio frequencies into visible light. The wind is actually the same as our sun’s solar wind, but magnified a million-fold or something like that because the star hasn’t reached a stable equilibrium yet. It’s in the T-Tauri phase, swinging wildly between gravitational collapse and thermal expansion. All proto stars go through that early phase.

“Would someone please help me out here? I’m just a poor ignorant sodbuster. How do they “see” ANYTHING with a radio telescope? In living color, yet?!”

Light and radio energy are two different kinds of electromagnetic energy, and the can both be used to create an image. See the explanation at:

Try It At Home! Make a Radio Image!
http://www.gb.nrao.edu/epo/image.html

“And if all this can be “seen” by that method, why did we have to mortgage the farm to put the Hubble telescope up there?”

Each instrument records images and other data by using different parts of the spectrum of electromagnetic energy. What can be seen and recorded with one segment of the electromagnetic spectrum is different than what can be seen and recorded with another segment of the electromagnetic spectrum. Putting these different images and sets of data together like a giant jigsaw puzzle makes it possible to reveal the secrets of the cosmos which heretofore remained hidden when using only the spectrum of visible light.

Ain't it great that God gave us those tools to use, and make modern medicine much less barbaric than it used to be before we got a handle on the EM spectrum?

Simple. You see radio waves, just a very narrow range of them, and call it “light”. We’re very good at seeing the radio waves we do perceive, which is why we put Hubble up. We know what we should see outside the range that we do see, so we can build machines to see that range of radio waves for us and translate it to what we can.

Think of it as a giant MRI in space - the image is reconstructed from the RF signal.

Color and all? My problem is with the dishonest, for-hire prostitute “scientific” world that will show you concocted images of supposed activities in the stellar heavens, when 50% of the time they can’t tell me, with certainty, what the weather will be here on Earth 48 hours from now.

Once they convince all the rubes that they can actually “see” these things in all their glorious splendor, from that far out, mark my words, they’re going to start claiming that things the rubes are doing are messing up the ecosphere and demanding lifestyle changes and imposing new taxes!/S

The title, pushing the idea that new stars are being “born” was the first burr under my saddle. There are some very learned and qualified scientists around who will tell you that the whole “new star” story being told is another fraud by the evolutionist crowd. They MUST keep pushing the idea that evolution continues.

They’ve totally struck out as to producing any real fossil proof of past or continuing evolution here on terra firma; so they’re taking a whack at selling evolution in space. JMHO

“Color and all?”

Next thing you’ll be telling us is that color thermal imaging and color magnetic resonance imaging doesn’t represent real physical phenomena.

“My problem is with the dishonest, for-hire prostitute “scientific” world that will show you concocted images of supposed activities in the stellar heavens, when 50% of the time they can’t tell me, with certainty, what the weather will be here on Earth 48 hours from now.”

On the contrary, your problem is your own dishonesty with yourself and everyone else as you deny real truths for no better reason than deliberate ignorance. “Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding. (King James Bible “Authorized Version”, Cambridge Edition). Another modern form is the wisdom: “Better to Remain Silent and Be Thought a Fool than to Speak and Remove All Doubt.”

In this case you wrongly conflate the difference between the ability to predict or observe precipitation will occur somewhere within a broad region with the inability to accurately predict or observe the occurrence of precipitation in one specific place at one specific hour. We can see this same problem of prediction in a wide variety of chaotic physical events, ranging from explosions to the throwing of dice. It is not so difficult to observe the occurrence of the macro event, yet the ability to calculate an individual micro event within the larger macro event is problematic because of the vast difference in the scope of potential uncertainties which would need to be resolved. For an example, knowing an explosion will occur within a certain area can be known to a virtual certainty, whereas determining the exact size and trajectory of an individual piece of shrapnel projected by the explosion may be too uncertain to calculate with any reasonable hope of accuracy.

The birth of a star is fairly easy to observe and discern once you have an instrument which can accurately detect the electromagnetic energy being emanated by the new star from behind any obscuring gas and dust clouds.

“The title, pushing the idea that new stars are being “born” was the first burr under my saddle. There are some very learned and qualified scientists around who will tell you that the whole “new star” story being told is another fraud by the evolutionist crowd. They MUST keep pushing the idea that evolution continues.”

Obviously, you are simply being willfully and stupidly ignorant like the Know Nothings proudly displaying their ignorant stupidity and dishonesty. The only thing fraudulent here is your stupidly ignorant comparison of astrophysics with the pseudo-science and political science of the Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW) and anthropogenic Climate Change fraudsters. Your claim there are “very learned and qualified scientists” making such claims is self-contradictory; because they can hardly qualify as scientists if and when they claim to deny the validity of the scientific method that is the basis of being a scientist in the first place. This is a matter of undeniable observational evidence and not a matter of a difference of subjective opinion.

“They’ve totally struck out as to producing any real fossil proof of past or continuing evolution here on terra firma; so they’re taking a whack at selling evolution in space. JMHO”

There is nothing whatsoever that can be reckoned as humble or honest about your opinion.

I was just answering your question of how they reconstruct the image - if you want to get into theory that’s a different discussion - and i’m not likely farther from you then you think.

Thank you for the reply. I understand what you’re saying. My problem is that I know the reason why I get a picture on my TV set is because a camera and other equipment feeds a coded digital image into a transmitter and the decoded signal causes a picture to be displayed on my TV screen. The electromagnetic “noise” arriving here from thousands of light years distant is just random noise supposedly being emitted by the random, uncontrolled actions of myriad objects interacting, There is no code, no system, no program to be deciphered. To say that a beautiful color picture of a glorious combination of lights, etc, can be displayed on our monitoring screens from that random noise along with all the other space noise arriving here strains my credulity to the breaking point.

I consider the fact that macro-evolution and AGW, both being promoted as “settled science” are really both blatant lies. Any reasonably intelligent person with a discerning eye and an honest heart innately knows this. So when I’m shown a beautiful photo, and told that it was created from random noise received via radio telescope dishes, I balk. You cannot display intelligent information at this end unless someone or something is transmitting intelligent information at the source. Random radio noise emanating from a maelstrom taking place in deep space is not intelligent information.
Thanks again.
