If these new libel laws were to take effect, Free Republic would be sued out of existence on day one.
If these laws took effect the only media we would have would be rich corporate liberal media.
New York Times, Washington Post etc...
This could be called the mainstream media only law.
That's why we excerpt now and can't even excerpt from certain sources.
Originally it was full articles posted so there would be a record and no question about content distortion or context.
That was clearly, to me, legal under fair use.
But the system did not see it that way.
Free Republic survived.
If this law were to be enacted though, Free Republic and all the conservative alternatives to the big liberal media would be shut down via lawsuit. Only wealthy outfits could pay the legal costs.
But the Mew York Times, LA Slimes, Washington Compost, CN-, Fix, MSNLSD et cetera ad nauseam would all have the money to continue.
Demented spamming’s no way to win friends, son.
Excellent insight.
You’ve really thought this through.

“Conservative website shuttered after libel ruling [Free Dominion]”
Free Dominion, our Canadian sister site, was shut down under just such circumstances.
It is evident he is lawsuit happy the numerous times he has threatened to sue other people for making him mad during this election cycle.
What he does after or if he is elected is anyone's guess but you can bet it will not be beneficial to the American Citizen if he is mad or upset at someone OR if it does not benefit him financially in the global market.

Bunch of articles about Free Dominion getting shut down if you don’t believe me.
Yes, try to change the subject.
You’re not serious.
If you support this libel law proposal, say so and say why.
We could all put up stupid pictures.
Yes.
It is like Canada and Europe where they are much less free to state opinions outside the liberal mainstream.
Not only is your 24/7 Trump hatefest counterproductive, it's wrong.
Did you even read the article?
I bet you didn’t.
Such laws honestly have no place here.
Hell no.
But I'll bookmark in case I ever need a dose of irrational alarmist claptrap.
You’re conflating two issues - fair use and libel, typical of your meat cleaver postings where a scalpel would do. I can’t imagine what the two have to do with each other. However, I’m a 100% Trumpian and I think what he said was dopey too.
What is the text of the new law Trump is proposing?
Truth in public discourse - Is it worth protecting?
Of COURSE you didn’t read it.
Thanks for at least admitting you attacked without having the decency to be informed first.
It's clear that you haven't! For one thing, you are conflating fair use with defamation, which is nonsense on stilts. For another, you seem to be defending defamation as a good thing. And eventually, even if defamation is a good thing, you haven't illuminated what the legal standard should be or might be if relaxed from the NYT v Sullivan standard. You also haven't distinguished between "publishing" and "remarking."
The only thing your piece is good for, it to assess your worth as a commentator.
See article in post 5.
Both issues kinda became one and the same.
