At least 14 people were arrested at a free speech rally in Portland, Oregon after anarchist antifascists (or “antifa”) showed up to counter-protest, resulting in violent clashes between the two groups.
The pro-Trump free speech rally was a pre-planned conservative event in Portland. It featured Kyle Chapman, aka “Based Stick Man,” who became internet famous for hitting an antifa protester on the head with a stick.
Antifa is a far-left group committed to fighting what they see as “fascism,” including the fascism of some Trump supporters. Antifa, usually masked and in all black, regularly engages in violence and intimidation against those they disagree with. (

Seems like good people, cover their faces and dress all in black, so not one recognizes them, while they throw rocks to hurt people they don’t agree with, break windows of people they don’t know, just to show their rage. They act like 3 year olds throwing a tantrum, but they aren’t 3 years old and they cost the community dollars.
They probably were referring to the elderly woman who held up the sign reading BLESSED IS THE NATION WHOSE GOD IS THE LORD.

When these domestic (Antifa) terrorists resort to violent attacks with imminent threats to the lives of peaceful demonstrators, the heads of these terrorists should be turned into pink mist.
Demonstrations for and against anything should be required to be separated by time and/or space. Masks and other disguises should be illegal. Any person who shows up to counter a permitted demonstration should be ejected and/or arrested. Freedom of speech allows groups to push their point of view but it should not be allowed to destroy another group’s ability to push its own point of view, especially where the group has obtained a permit and followed reasonable regulations. I know that’s a pipe dream but I believe freedom of speech should include the right to express a point of view without harassment and violence.
We need white stetsons and some rough rowdy men. Take America back.

Ya know ... when one of these confrontations ends with a few of the most violent ‘antifa’ members swinging from lampposts or a nearby oak tree, I would bet that things would quiet down a bit.
The liberals are rent a mob types and don't really care what they are doing so long as the money keeps rolling in.
The conservatives believe in what they are doing and are just now getting tired of the libs attacks and violence and are now starting to react instead of avoiding any conflict.
This isn't a good situation for the left.

As others have written, it isn't just democracy and liberty that are at stake, it is civilization itself. These groups seek to undo all that civilized society and Western democracy have achieved. They've thrown in with the barbarians and have adopted their methods. The brilliant Daniel Greenfield writes about another American civil war. Maybe what we're seeing is the beginning of a world-wide war, a war that seeks to destroy civil society.

What are you saying here? Free Republic was founded to counter demonstrate left-wing demonstrations. That is the original meaning of “to freep”. When I was younger, and healthier, most of the Free Republic events I attended were counter-demonstrations. Sometimes we were vastly outnumbered; on a few memorable occasions we outnumbered the original protesters (Ah! Good times; good memories!)
The difference is that right from the start we eschewed violence (altho’ I confess to losing my temper once, and waving my cane about. I swear I never touched the pun...er kid, ‘tho’.) No bricks; no knives, no box-cutters; no sap-gloves; no fireworks, no empty glass bottles, no frozen bottles of water. No roughing up opponents; no sucker punches, no ‘knock-out games’; no throwing old people to the ground and kicking them. But the Left didn’t follow those rules, and I could see what was going to come: sooner or later, it was going to end in street fighting. And now it has, but not by our doing. “The (right-wing) is vicious, they fight back when attacked.”

My brain is in gear. We are no longer a nation of respectful, thoughtful debate. Yes, the left is largely to blame but the result is that no message beyond pithy chants and obscene signs is getting out. Both sides should allow the other to have its say and then counter with the other side in a respectful, civilized manner. When a demonstration permit triggers a counter demonstration at the same time and place, it becomes merely a street fight, as you noted. The left can win by shutting down the right’s right to be heard. The right cannot win by being silenced when we have facts and history and common sense on our side and are prevented from speaking them. Conversely, thanks to media complicity, the left can win by being silenced by the right. It is a lose/lose for the right and a win/win for the left.
