Just had a pretty big earthquake here in Montana. Initial measurements are 5.8 and located 50 miles NW of Helena. Started slow and rolling and then got going. Only have felt one aftershock so far.
Sorry - it was 50 km from Helena (not miles)
I’m in Missoula. Started as a low rumble and then really shook. Felt like a freight train was running past house. Shorter aftershock about 3 minutes later.
That’s big and shallow. It probably did damage.
I’m in northern Idaho, about 200 miles WNW of Missoula. Quite pronounced, no doubt of what was going on. No damage but it sure caught my attention.
I’m just south of Big Sky. I just assumed it was coming from the Park/West Yellowstone area.
Usgs say 4km deep
Interesting. There have been swarms around Yellowstone, but that’s SE of you.

I first read that as Missouri and thought ‘woh’ that’s a big un.
5.8 - bigger than any we’ve experienced in OK in our recent outbreak. An earthquake is such a different experience that it’s hard to describe.
I’m sure some people just slept through it. They were shaken but not stirred.
Funny.
Scrooge MMcDuck’s adversaries the Terries and Fermies did it.
Did the Fermies wear the four-in-hand ties, or was it the Terries?
Was it a shaker or an uplift?
bkmk
I saw this when I got up this morning. Hard and shallow is not always a good thing.
Now we have to listen to Super Volcano talk for a week.
