The Department of Justice has started issuing charges against members of a caravan parked at the southern border with Mexico.
Late Monday night, charges were filed against 11 members for illegally entering the United States. One of the caravan members has been deported before.
When respect for the rule of law diminishes, so too does our ability to protect our great nation, its borders, and its citizens, Attorney General Jeff Sessions released in a statement. The United States will not stand by as our immigration laws are ignored and our nations safety is jeopardized. U.S. Attorney Adam Braverman and his team should be commended for quickly filing illegal entry charges for individuals apprehended along the southwestern border. We will continue to work with our partners in each U.S. Attorneys Offices to aggressively pursue prosecutions of criminal illegal entry.
According to DOJ, the members charged purposely evaded immigration authorities by entering the country at "a time and place other than as designated by Immigration Officers, and eluded examination and inspection by Immigration Officers."
The American Dream has beckoned immigrants from across the globe because of the promise that prosperity and success are within reach for all, United States Attorney for the Southern District of California Adam Braverman said. Those immigrants have contributed their voices and perspectives to make up our uniquely American experience. But the foundation for the American Dream, and what allows our democracy to flourish, is commitment to the rule of law. These eleven defendants face charges now because they believed themselves to be above the law. Those seeking entry into the United States must pledge fidelity to the law, not break them, or else face criminal prosecution.
The members of the caravan, made up of illegal immigrants from Honduras, arrived in the United States late last week after Mexico failed to stop them. They claim to be seeking asylum in America.
Excellent. I suppose that’s all that can be done to them, within the law.
Hmmmm. So, I heard a bunch of them “surrendered” to ICE claiming the need for political assylum. Oh, and they didn’t want to stay in meh-eek-0 either. Too bad.
This is bad. Now they’re in the courts system and will stay in the country for years until some judge or Democrat president gives them a green card.
They’re getting played so hard and it infuriates me.
Prosecute the organizers and funders for treason, that being causing the invasion of the United States
No doubt the only rocket scientist in the group.
Justice dispensed with a clogged up Eyedropper.
Sessions is on it!
“a time and place other than as designated by Immigration Officers, and eluded examination and inspection by Immigration Officers”
Exactly the verbage from the Statute.
That’s the crime. No reason they couldn’t have applied for a visa from their home country, gone through the process, and walked through the front gate at the San Ysidro crossing. Thousands of people do it every day there.
Give them a copy of international amnesty rules and regulations that says amnesty must be applied for at first country of entry.....and send them back to wherever the next state next to their residence was.
Every one should be summarily rejected for not having requested asylum in Mexico - I say about one minute per hearing and they can be done by lunch. They should rot in Tijuana until they go home... without a Soros paid charter bus on the return trip.
The political asylum angle is really all they have. They will be deported back into Mexico as they are processed if their asylum claims dont meet muster. Each one will then, at a minimum, have an identifiable record of being deported from the US.
Probly should have just shot the first 8 or 10 so’s the whole world could see. Paperwork would have been less.
The CARAVAN is being coached by “attorneys” on how to request and answer questions on amnesty, basically a fraud,by lying. It is a crime to lie to a Federal Agent. Why doesn’t ICE / DOJ send in under cover agents to find out which attorneys are coaching illegals to lie on entry? The attorneys could then be charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, of which I am sure there are many.
They should have never been allowed to set foot in this country.
The situation is hopeless. Despite the election in 2016, no much has changed. I don't know if the problem is in the chain of command or what. But we have had a lot of talk and not much action. When some illegal hooligans give you two months notice as to what they are going to do and yet it remains business as usual on our part.
The invaders were waving Honduran flags and literally giving the middle finger to America; they scaled to San Diego border walls with impunity and weren't even challenged.
Oh, Jeff Sessions gave a parking ticket to 11 of them. Bravo Jeff! Go get 'em!
BUMP!
I didnt realize that was the international rule. How come the mainstream media isnt telling us that? /s
I dont think we should pay a penny to return them. Now if we had a wall, we wouldnt have to! Again, the wall pays for itself. Trump is running out of time to get it going.
I said not much has changed and nothing will change but have been told over and over....Trump! Either that or...hes only one man. Not much he can do.
Hes the friggen President who is supposed to be in control of these agencies who people he appointed are running! Hes not just a friggen bystander which his tweets, that everyone is so proud of, make him sound like.
Im just sick about it all. And done. Promises, fricken promises, as usual.
They can all go pound sand.

Isnt that cute. The AG woke up.

Same language and largely the same culture. That tells you all you need to know, it boils down to what country has the deep pockets. LEECHES.
They claim to be fleeing Honduras because of the oppressive conditions there. Once they crossed the border into Mexico and were no longer in Honduras, why didn't they ask Mexico for asylum?
