Bill Kristol building 'war machine' to challenge Trump in 2020 primary
The Hill ^ | 09/14/18 | JOE CONCHA

Posted on 09/14/2018 2:49:06 PM PDT by yesthatjallen

Conservative commentator and outspoken "Never Trump" critic Bill Kristol says he is building a "war machine" within the Republican party to challenge President Trump's 2020 reelection campaign, according to CNBC.

Kristol told the network that he's preparing "for a primary run against Trump," adding that Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) is on his shortlist of possible candidates.

Kasich was unsuccessful in his 2016 bid for the Republican presidential nomination, only managing to beat Trump in his home state.

Kristol also said Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) and outgoing Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) are also being considered.

“We are thinking of and doing preliminary work to prepare for a primary run against Trump,” Kristol told CNBC on Thursday. “People aren’t going to say they will run against Trump unless they have the infrastructure, but I’ve been trying to persuade people that it may not be that difficult.”

Kristol, who has called Trump "disgraceful" and "buffoonish," is the editor at large and founder of conservative magazine, The Weekly Standard. Kristol also serves as director of the nonprofit organization, Defending Democracy Together.

In a statement to CNBC, Sasse's spokesman did not deny that the senator has spoken to Kristol.

"I'm not going to comment on what other people decide to bring up in their personal conversations with the senator, but — like we've said for a long time — Ben doesn't pay any attention to the 2020 Washington rumor mill," said spokesman James Wegmann.

The Hill has reached out Kasich and Flake for comment.

If Pubbies can keep the House and Senate in 2018, Trump will likely be invincible by 2020. The economy/jobs/manufacturing, etc., should only improve beyond anything we have seen.

Rino Ryan will be gone. Maybe McConnell can be encouraged to retire.

Wannabes cannot just ‘run against Trump’. They will need to offer something.

I've noticed David French has been somewhat conciliatory in tone toward President Trump. It reminds me of that old tautology: "nothing succeeds like success".

The first time around a lot of neocon types seriously doubted that President Trump was capable. However, President Trump's track record on jobs, the economy, trade has been positive. And sensible neocons are not going to want to derail that with a stompy foot tantrum over President Trump's rough cut personality. He eats his steak with ketchup. So what!

Kristol on the other hand is a worm, something that lives in the muck at the bottom of a pond. With Kristol it has become psychotic, paranoid, revenge driven hate. Kristol is still dressed in the same bathrobe and slippers he wore on election night. He toddles around his condo, latte in hand, plotting the counterrevolution that will never be.

Kasich was unsuccessful in his 2016 bid for the Republican presidential nomination

Kasich would not and did not participate in the GOP national convention held in his own state. That is akin to spitting in someone's face.

Anyone that would include Kasich in a list of good GOP candidates has a loose nut somewhere.

——Bill Kristol says he is building a “war machine” within the Republican Party....———

A war machine needs boots on the ground in overwhelming numbers to win the battle and lead o victory....

When we keep the House and win a few more Senate seats, Kristol war machine could fit in a phone booth.

The man is insane...

He has a visceral hatred of Trump.

The only thing I recall he praised Trump for was bombing Syria.

The RINO party is going to challenge Trump?

It’s a loser campaign before it even gets started?

And, who is Bill whatshisname?

I think I heard of Kasich, but, could somebody remind me what party he belongs to?

And, isn’t Flake part of the liberal cabal trying to undo the Trump presidency? Is he going to run as a liberal in the RINO party?

He can build whatever he wants. Problem is he would need voters and he isn’t going to get many because we despise him and his type.
