God drives a Plymouth. We know this because it says so in the bible book of Genesis: “God drove Adam and Eve out of the garden in a fury.”

I guess watches will remain pieces of jewelry and fashion accessories for some, but cell phones and other devices will put a dent in total watch sales, as well as for portable radios, small TVs, Walkman type devices and some others.

I’m guessing Jesus doesn’t care what time it is.

I wear an off-brand watch that I bought about fifteen years ago for less than fifty dollars when it was on sale. With a steel band, it never needs anything other than a battery about every five years. It is just attractive enough to get occasional compliments from women acquaintances, so I am inclined to keep wearing it.

Shouldn’t your capacities be in the Lord?

The bible itself profiteth naught if we never look through it, not just at it.

And if it causes you offense to say that angels sang anything, by all means refrain from doing it. But I seriously did hope that you might find room to coexist with the “angels sing” people.

By the way, who jumped on who first, and for what?

I didn’t even come in here saying that angels ever sang anything, only that they could sing as Jesus wished. Now tell me honestly, did you have an axe to grind yourself? Leading you to take exception right off? Exception to something I didn’t even claim.

This apparently isn’t about “you” and “your Biblical comprehension.” I will gladly say it looks a whole lot like it’s about my assertion of the glory of the Lord. Something I was created to do. Take it up with Him.

Generally agree although I think the term "jewelry" understates a watch's significance and I think limiting it to "for some" is incorrect. I think most people are smart to own a watch for the simple reason that it's a social norm to wear a watch when you're even moderately dressed up. That puts a watch in a different category than, say, a portable radio which has zero social significance. For whatever reason watches have gotten sucked into the conventionally agreed upon dress code, and those conventions do not change easily and are not just optional for most people.

Since this is a hypothetical exercise, could it be possible that Jesus would carry a pocket watch if it existed? Something a bit old fashioned, in keeping with His status of being the Ancient of Days?

Well the critical question would clearly be — did robes have pockets?

Who knows how the Carpenter of Nazareth might have presented Himself in this modern day had God so purposed Him to be incarnated into it. He might have worn Carhartts and driven a pickup truck carrying a tool box.

That would kind of be putting the cart before the horse, however. Modern technology and its boons were brought to us by Christian culture in the first place. Jesus is to credit for us getting an industrial age at all. It was suitable for Him to appear in a more primitive era peopled with craftsmen and guilds.

I did the same with my Breitling, bought a titanium coated stainless steel mesh band for it, it originally had a leather band.

Never could wear much of any jewelry - tried several watches when I was younger and they sat on my dresser. These days, the time is available to the microsecond w/o a watch - even my car clock is more accurate than any watch.

“I should add I have several high end replica Rolex watches.”

Years ago my brother-in-law was showing off his “Rolex” watch that he bought on a street corner in New York City for $20.

“Of course it’s a Rolex - the guy in his cut-offs and wife beater T-shirt with the table full of Rolex watches told me so! And I must say, it keeps perfect time. Which of course one would expect from a REAL Rolex!” (All said tongue in cheek.)

“Does anyone still use ‘boom boxes’?”

Of course! I have a small “boom box” to listen to the game or talk radio while doing something on the cars, in the garage, the yard, etc. I’ve even thought about trying to find my old cassettes and see if the player still works.

Although for Christmas I just got a fitbit watch that can hold 300 songs, so I guess I don’t need to worry about trying to find those cassettes up in the attic.

Agreed, I see watches that are huge. To each his own, but I would not wear watches so large. It draws attention away from the rest of the wardrobe.

Never had the band repaired or replaced. I need to have it polished up and a few things fixed. Like some welding dingleberries burned into the band. I forgot to take it off while welding. One day I’ll send it in.

I had one of those for 20+ years before I got a Sub. Great watch.
